Even more surreal, he was taking photos with any fans who wanted one at the airport Tuesday at 6 AM, and then he collapses 12 hours later.

What a way to go out, though.

Spends an entire weekend with his family, makes amends with a ton of people which was reciprocated, gets the career recognition he believed he always deserved, and got to say thank you, and essentially farewell, to all of the fans be believed he had and was showered with cheers while he did it.

As introspective as this guy has been, must have been a awesome weekend. One hell of a goodbye.

Agreed. It still sucks that he passed away so young but I am glad that at least had the chance to go out having received redemption for his career and place in WWE history before he died. This would have been even more tragic if he had passed away before getting inducted into the HOF.
 

Had a convo with an associate who was backstage at WWE30. He said Warrior was there and did look all rickety but frankly so did all the old wrestlers. I told him at comic con Sgt Slaughter was moving around like hes 100. Has the cause of death been released ?

Either way as LL2G said what a way to go out.

I was in Gene Anderson’s organization and WWF came to town they brought me in for three house show,” he said. “I worked two matches with Barry Horowitz and one with Mega Man. The two with Barry were good and the one with Mega Man was a horrible match. I went to the locker room they told me ‘don’t worry about it that guy is as green as you are’.” The Ultimate Warrior had come had his match. He sprinted to the ring, he hit the ropes, beats the guy and sprints all the way through the locker room and immediately sits down. As am talking he passes out. I said wow what happened. One of the Anderson brothers said don’t worry he probably just got gassed. I thought he died. That was the first time I met him. After that he wouldn’t talk much. He was nice to me. I respected him. He was a man of few words. I respected him."

I rewatched the Hogan-Warrior match from WrestleMania VI. Maybe the smartest opening 10 minutes of a match you'll see.

Warrior comes to the ring...his usual out of this world hype madness...but by the time Hogan gets to the ring (via a casual Hogan-stroll) Warrior is completely gassed and these two are expected to go 30 minutes.

Oh lord.

Smartly...nothing but usual big man bullshit to start...match doesn't get going for almost 10 minutes. You know, even today, that opening 10 minutes, where nothing happens, might be the best "nothing happens" ever...Lockup, Tests of Strength...usually...a whole lot of shit. But, they had the crowd by the balls in that shit and it helped get Warrior back in the thick of the match, because god damn was he gassed. Blown the fuck up.

Hogan worked his ass off.

I remember WWF the following saturday saying that Hogan and Warrior were so spent they both collapsed from exhaustion. Reading that Shamrock story and looking back at it...its probably true. Those two did some serious huffing and puffing during some fights.
