He was scheduled to fight Dan, it isn't an open contract to fight that night

Jones stance is clearly not to take a fight on 8 days notice, he wanted prep time, that's why he is fighting 3 weeks later

His coach wouldn't be there until today and would have one day to game plan, I think he should have taken an easy fight but that's his decision

Its only an issue now because they cancelled the show, they could have made a new ME with all the guys looking to fight

You guys have a serious inability to read.

Saying no to matchmaking offers when youre negotiating or getting schedules =/= saying no to a replacement fight when your opponent us injured and you are on the main event.

So its ok to not take a replacement fight on 8 days notice for lack of prep time.
But its not ok for Dana to cancel the show with 8 days notice for lack of promo time.

You dont see the hypocrisy there ?

So if Dan got hurt on the night of the show ala Ken Shamrock and Jones refused to fight a replacement. Then what ?...is it still Danas fault ?


I really dont give to flying fucks whats smart business whats smart strategy for a fighter etc.at this point. I am a fan first. Far as Im concerned I wanted to see Jon Jones fight ..those who paid for tix wanted to see Jones fight. He is the one that refused to fight and basically took himself off the card.

Do you really think we'd be having this discussion if Jones was hurt...you think Hendo refuses to fight ?

What does a phone interview with dana white have to do with an inability to read. He SAID no fighter in the history of the UFC has ever declined a fight. No more, no less.

The promoters job was done.
He booked the main event. When the injury occurred he had a backup plan. Jones refused to fight.
That is on Jones and Jackson 100%. Now promoters have to plan backup main events in case a fighter refuses ? Danas only true stupidity was letting fighter have the final say once booked for a main event fight.

Putting it on Dana for not stacking the card , or not having a new Main Event is ridiculous. You guys are just piling on the Dana hate when it should be squarely on Jones.

For the billionth time. Until someone shows it has. This seems to have never happened before. With the insane amount of fighter injuries and last minute changes why is this the first time this has come up ?

Jon Jones is never, ever going to live this down. This was a massive mistake. I can't believe this was his decision. If you have ultimate fighter on your business card, you are supposed to show up and fight. And if you are the world champion, you are supposed to have the 'anytime, anywhere, anyhow' attitude.

From a fan's standpoint, you want to believe your guy would fight anyone at any place at any time. Him saying no to a guy fans perceive as a middleweight isn't going to help his image at all.

1. Answer the question and name the other times a booked main event fighter has refused to fight a replacement fighter after injury.

2. Name the choice Dana had yesterday that was a good one that wouldnt have resulted in you Lulzing or bashing him.

He said he would fight Chapel or whoever at 152, they needed to make another ME or add fights to 151, they put on bad ppv's all the time, whats one more going to hurt?
 
Of course he has the only real right fighters can have is to decline a match-up. Pretty much everything else is out of their hands and the promoter has them by the balls.

Still, Jones looks so bad after this.

I said three times in this thread that Jones should have taken the fight.

The issue, is Dana is burying Jones for forcing the card to be cancelled, which is a manipulative, cowardly cop out move. Typical carny promoter bullshit. Bury the talent because your shitty business plan finally bit you on the ass. This day was going to come, seemingly every show is patched together these days.

Play with fire, get burned, blame the match. Thats Dana.

Of course. I blame Dana more than I do Jones, but I still don't understand the logic in Jones' decision. He turned down a clear win/win situation and probably a lot of extra money as well. You're already training for a wrestler, arguably a more dangerous one at that. Chael is not in camp, would be fighting at 205 for the first time, so he definitely wouldn't be at 100%. It's not that drastic of a change for Jones and you're getting someone that wouldn't be prepared. Why would anyone not accept that?

Still, I will admit that Dana sound like a complete tool on the conference call. It's not Jones' responsibility to make sure everyone on the undercard is taken care of, that's Dana's responsibility. I also think throwing random fights together with a couple weeks notice is more of a sports killer than doing things the professional way and pushing it back. With that said the bigger risk is on the fighter who hasn't even been in training and isn't in fight shape, unlike Jones.
 
Rolling out an out of shape MW for a LHW title fight is bush league, even the Vitor fight isn't much better, but at least he is in shape

Chael shouldn't even have been contacted or even part of this story
