Absolute highway robbery for the the Jays to get ANYTHING in return for Wells, AND to not have to pay any of the contract. This just seems like a pure desperation move for the Angels, but it's definitely not the first time they've overpaid the shit out of someone, see also: Gary Matthews.

Rivera was starting to break out, until he broke his leg I think, then he fell behind in the lineup. I always felt if they gave him a full time shot he would have been an above avg player

I don't think a lot of americans realize how rich the blue jays really are.

In 2010 I think Rogers was worth around $20 billion. I'm sure having a baseball payroll of 100M+ isn't going to break their bank.

Its kinda nice to see things turning into positives in Toronto. Although they arn't expected to win anything this year having a GM who is actively building for the future and seemingly is making all the right moves is a plus. I'll admit I pretty much gave up on baseball as a whole many years ago. It's a pretty boring sport and when a team you losely follow has so many failures you lose interest in it easily. There's probably a ton of guys just like me (hockey nuts with nothing else to follow in the summer, CFL and MLS doesn't cut it) and hearing positives coming from a team based out of toronto is a good thing and could lead to me going to a few games in the summer if I get some time off.

Oh absolutely. They spent money the year we had Halladay/Burnett/etc....we had 100M on the payroll, we had a good enough for the playoffs team on paper, but injuries and poor play from a couple guys expected to contribute and we landed 2nd, but not good enough for the WC.

With the movement of Rios and Wells 160 bajillion pesos off the books, and that we have a pretty good young core that's emerging, we're in a position for them to spend again, and they certainly will, just not this year because we're not ready for that yet.

Fielder and probably Pujols (although he's less likely to sign here) will absolutely be targeted next season, likely a closer as well, although not sure what's going to be available next offseason at that spot.

I should have bought their $100 season ticket offer for the nose bleeds, just a pain in the dick having to get your ticket at the stadium 1hr before first pitch.

Also for to Toronto to start handing out more big money contracts just because they are out from under previous contracts is kind of stupid and short sighted. They will never be able to outspend Boston or New York, so why even try? Follow the Tampa model or get used to mediocrity.
