Very few of us are old enough to remember Vikings outdoor games before the dome (maybe jeffx or bucky), but it was a flat out disaster with many games being played in outright dangerous conditions. The Green Bay & Chicago comparisons aren't valid. It's worse in Minnesota.

The Vikings will never play outdoors again. There is no reason to fight those ridiculous elements anymore.

There was a huge issue going into the Chicago/Minnesota outdoor game at University of Minnesota. They had to bring in special heaters I believe to make sure the field wasn't a rock.

Meh. I like it. I don't mind it looking similar to the other venues because they aren't ugly. I'm just glad that the donut shaped stadiums are gone. It's just a reality that they'll end up looking similar because... they're the same thing. Domed football stadiums being similar to other domed football stadiums isn't such a travesty in my eyes. Open-air stadiums tend to look better, but looking pretty is an above-freezing luxury.

It's not like baseball where you can shape the field however you want as long as it's within certain guidelines.

Wind , Field "hardness" , sideline and fan warmth can all be dealt with fairly easy in a modern facility. Those stadiums were 50$ more expensive than a high school field.
Its been what almost 40 years ? Were not dealing with 2 inches of old soil anymore.
If Cleveland , N.E , Buffalo , and Pitt can deal with it so can Minnesota.

Nobody complains when it was 50 below zero in GB. Or when it was 20 below zero without windchill for a Packers Bears game a couple seasons ago.

And there was a reason that the Minny and Chicago game was a farce a couple years ago. The University built that stadium specifically to handle the U of M and college games. They built field turf, and NO heating coils under the surface. They figured all games would be done in the stadium at Thanksgiving. They also had to do a bunch of other shit just to make it run because they basically shut everything off for the winter.

Throw in a better surface, some heating coils, and some heaters on the sideline and they will be ok.

Also, people will go. That wont be much of an issue. As long as the team is decent people will show.

(And yes I know its cold there, I went to Juco in northern Minnesota.)

Compare to Green Bay all you want, it's nowhere near the same fanbase in regards to support or loyalty.

Building a pretty stadium so people will attend in spite of losses is an exercise in stupidity.
Historically IIRC its been the warm weather teams that have had trouble filling seats even when the team is doing well. People aint got shit to do when its 22 degrees if theres a winning team in town theyll go.
