The Minnesota Vikings are on the verge of reuniting two of their former division rivals from Green Bay.

Less than a week after former Packers quarterback Brett Favre decided to return for another season in Minnesota, the Vikings are planning on signing former Packers wide receiver Javon Walker on Monday, a source close to the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Walker experienced his greatest success with Favre as his quarterback and Minnesota is hoping for more of the same.

Walker, whose only Pro Bowl season came in 2004 with the Packers when Favre was his quarterback, hasn't had a 1,000-yard receiving season since 2006 when he was with the Denver Broncos.

Walker, however, clashed with Favre before he left the Packers in a trade after the 2005 season. Favre torched Walker for skipping the Green Bay Packers' 2005 minicamp. Walker was seeking a new contract at the time.

A year later, Walker asked the Packers to trade him in part because of Favre's comments. The Broncos acquired Walker from Green Bay for a second-round pick in the 2006 draft.

Denver cut Walker after the 2007 season because he had major problems with his knees and lost his ability to separate from defenders. The Oakland Raiders, however, gave him a six-year, $55 million deal with $16 million in guaranteed money.

Oakland released Walker this offseason after two unproductive seasons with the team.

I cant imagine Javon Walker being much of a receiver for Minnesota. Especially with the talent at the receiving core they already have. Good to see he hasn't quit all together.

Maybe if everyone gets hurt he'll do something. But since he blew out his knee he hasn't been nearly the same player he was in Green Bay. Plus he's hurt every year. You gotta think he'll be the #4 WR AT BEST. This signing really doesn't make much sense to me at all. I'd put more stock in their young practice squad wideouts than I would in Walker...

There's a big difference between "preseason hurt" and "regular season hurt". Both those guys will start week 1.

I meant that with the two out right now, he'll be given time to bond with him. He'll have the same bond with him once preseason is over, and he'll be only the #4 option or if Harvin's out, the 3rd option.

True, but Sidney Rice isn't exactly known for playing full seasons (only done it once) and Harvin is obviously not getting any better if he has to go to the hospital for migraines

I read a report this morning that said Rice has been dealing with a hip injury since the NFC championship game that is going to require surgery and he is expected to miss up to half of the season.

Completely forgot about the Rice injury, Walker might end up seeing some playing time. Ahead of him now is just Berrian, Harvin and Lewis. And who knows about Harvin being able to play a full season.

His physical talents were never in question before his injury but he turned into quite a head case. A lot of people thought Randy Moss was finished before he went to the Patriots and he has proven them wrong. Maybe Walker can do the same thing to a lesser extent.

The Moss to Walker comparison is a horrible one. Last year Walker saw the field for a whopping 17 plays. Walker played bad in 2008 with 15 catches while on the field for 180 pass plays in total. Thats 1 catch every 12 pass plays. I don't care if Russell is playing quarterback, thats really bad. He also has started a grand total of 12 games in the past three years.
