VSN Baseball Spring Training Random Thoughts

Spring Training begins in TWO WEEKS!* :dance:

*SCEA has a 2 week limit before you can start a league. Jerks.

Here are the details of VSN Baseball Spring Training:

-It is comparable to the real MLB spring training, two divisions, no playoffs, nothing special, just getting ready for the season and feeling out the good players/owners. Play every other team involved once, unless the owner is a flake then you're not to be worried about that game. Try not to always play home or away to keep things fair, but not a huge concern. Easy enough, yes?
-Everybody who signed up is invited in spring training (and new people can join too), but not all owners will get into the regular season. I'm looking at 12-20 owners most likely. Tomorrow afternoon I will team draft from your lists for Spring Training. If a owner gets cut/flakes and you want his team, we'll have a phase before the regular season where guys can swap teams if they'd like.
-Since we have 24 owners on the list, that would mean 23 games. It is NOT MANDATORY to complete spring training to qualify for the league, however if you did you automatically are in.
-You will be reviewed by your attempts at playing your games (how many, how consistent throughout March you are, posting in scheduling threads) and by how you play (crying about losing, breaking any rules, quitting/pulling plug).

-SPRING TRAINING IS YOUR CHANCE TO PROVE YOU AREN'T A QUITTER. That simple. In addition we get to get used to online, decide settings with actual game feedback, test the online league mode to ensure it's better than LD, create any rules, have fun, wait for rosters and once again, ensure the best owners we can have.


I'm flexible to the duration of Spring Training, we can change it whenever, but right now I want to do this for all of March. (or until Opening Day? Opening Day Rosters?)

So once you get the game, join the VSN Spring Training league that I'll create (with more posted details) tomorrow.

I'll create two threads, one for both Grapefruit and Cactus leagues, and on nights you play to play, simply post in the threads saying what times you expect to be on. Anyone at work/school/whatever throughout the day can find out who's going to be playing at night so they know to be on if they want to play you. Really simple. Doing this will be weighted heavily when I decide who's going to play, because it's near vital to having a quality league, so I encourage you to do this often. All you need to do is visit this subforum for a minute a day to know who's on!

That's pretty much what I meant right there. Spring Training will use the league mode in game.

Required? No. There will be threads for scheduling games. The reason I do this is because it makes it really easy to spot who is trying to play games and who is not. Im sure I will be, but I can hit my target more than half of the time with analog, which in honesty is still too easy. Pitchers cant place the ball exactly where they want it every time. Last year, it wasnt too hard to be a master at painting the corners with every pitch, at least this makes it more difficult to do so.

anyways I think I read somewhere that the control scheme is up to the user and isn't dependent on anything so we can all probably use whatever we feel comfortable with.

Theres some confusion on if it is up to the user in league play. If so, why would anyone use analog? I like it because I will walk people even when im trying to throw strikes, but if everyone else is using the meter and painting the black all game, why would I walk people?

But everybody knows how I feel about analog, so I wont repeat my rhetoric.

Analog hitting is going to be mastered and eventually lead to MVP 05 cheeseball. Cat & mouse game between hitter and pitcher is dead.

I hope it is a league setting myself. I think we should all be playing the game the same way, but we'll let the game settings and Spring Training sort that out.

I agree with those comments. Well, I agree that pitcher placement was right on last year, most people simply swing at too many poor pitches which makes for more K's than BB's, but that's of no fault of the game.

I do fear that the "cat & mouse" game will be lost in analog hitting. In the 09 World Series that's what it revolved around between the two of us, trying to figure out what was coming next. I feel that we couldn't replicate that with analog hitting because you don't have to worry about where the ball is really.

I feel like you only threw a ball when you wanted to for the most part. I honestly wasnt planning on getting The Show this year just because the meter is so old and worn out to me.

Im still pretty bad at hitting with analog, which is why id prefer button hitting and analog everything else. I read that if the pitch is up and to the left you have to press up and to the left when swinging to make good contact. Is that not true?
