VSN Consensus Mock: Jacksonville Jaguars OTC

With the NFL Draft closing in, we are going to run a consensus mock of the first round. Every 24 hours or so, I will post a new poll for the next pick. I will be using WalterFootball's Big Board for selecting the players to appear on the poll. There will be 9 options total: 8 players, and one write in. Votes in the poll will be what matters, but in the event of a tie, I will look at the number of people who posted in the thread and tally who they supported as the tiebreaker.

EDIT: Until the top three QBs are thinned out, I will include the top five from their big board, then have those QBs follow.

I'm really in the minority here but i really like Bridgewater.

Tough pick for the Jags because I think the Rams will get an OT and the Jags will get Clowney. Really doesn't seem like the Jags will go after a QB although I could obviously be wrong. Under these circumstances I might have to pick Sammy Watkins.

Watkins is the pick if they feel that Carr or Garoppalo will fall to them in the second.

However they can't be satisfied with Henne as a long term answer at QB and while Bridgewater is the safe pick, Manziel sells tickets for a the with negative 8000 attendance each week.

Mack is the best player in the draft but he will not add wins to a team which lacks so much on the offensive side of the ball. Wins are the only thing that matters and he won't bring them.

The goal here is to build a team that can continuously compete, and not just go for the gold right away. Filling the holes around the rest of the team first is the way to do that. Let's remember that this is a deep draft, especially at the QB/WR positions. I can see the Jags going defense here (which is the right move), and then grabbing a 2nd day QB to sit as a backup this year. No need to rush this process.

Manziel is interesting, but I don't think he sells that many more tickets for the Jaguars. With his risk anyway, it's not worth them drafting him this high with other needs.

The Jaguars are building and they have the worst roster in football. Gene Smith left the roster with legitimate scrubs scattered on the two-deep, ESPECIALLY on defense. They've infused the defense with a bunch of solid replacement level players. But its a defense that still needs an infusion of talent.

The Jaguars need to just pick the best available, top guy on their board and move on. In this scenario...it should be Mack, Watkins, or one of the offensive linemen.

I am completely opposed to drafting a wide out in Round 1 for my team...completely unnecessary...so, that rules him out. Mack or one of the OL would be my choice. No one in this draft outside of a stud QB (and there isn't any here) brings "wins" to this team.
