The goal here is to build a team that can continuously compete, and not just go for the gold right away. Filling the holes around the rest of the team first is the way to do that. Let's remember that this is a deep draft, especially at the QB/WR positions. I can see the Jags going defense here (which is the right move), and then grabbing a 2nd day QB to sit as a backup this year. No need to rush this process.

Except this isn't the 1990's NFL. A regime has 2-3 years at best to produce. There isn't time to "wait" and do a 3-4 year rebuild. If significant strides aren't made each and every season then someone else comes in.

I do agree with Mack here but only because they need this pick to count and I see Mack as the only "safe" pick in the draft. At worst he should be a pro bowl player in a couple years.

Yes, there is plenty of time to do a rebuild. An NFL team is not just a quarterback and a wide receiver, do you realize that? A significant stride is to build a solid young core on the team and go from there. Selecting Bridgewater and hoping that him and Blackmon will combine together to win games is just a ridiculous theory. The Jaguars can easily solidify other weaknesses in the team and still select a QB later on in the draft, which is the smartest thing to do, and the only thing to do.

It honestly depends on the team. There are some very patient teams, like Pittsburgh and Baltimore out there. Hell, Snyder gave Shanahan four years. But the Browns got rid of their entire coach and front office in one season, and some coaches don't even make a third season.

I do agree with you here, as I think the Jaguars owner realizes how much of a mess is there. The fact that they didn't sign Tebow indicates to me that he is concerned with doing things right and isn't trying to rush success or ticket sales.
