As long as I got 15% when I was there I was cool. Obviously if I knew I gave shit service that was different. Hell if I knew I didn't give top notch service I would buy them dessert out of my own pocket or a round of drinks...

If I had an employee who had to pay off customers because the service he provided was so terrible, that employee would be fired immediately. You make it sound like this was a regular occurence for you.

I think that lying goes against the whole integrity thing, too.

I've never had so horrible service that I thought of not giving a tip. If I can tell a person is being over loaded and their service is suffering, I still leave them a 10% tip but never 0%. Because of his past, I think most will side with the waitress but I'm sure she will be fired (if not already) for posting it online.

I don't think anyone with even half of a functioning brain would believe you, but even if they did: it's stupid. You said if you knew you gave shitty service is the situation that you'd do this. What? How about, instead of giving made up dessert or drinks, when you realize that you're giving shitty service you just apologize and give better service? You expect me to believe that you were a crap waiter all night and then at the end decided "Man, I really sucked. I'll order them some drinks to make up for it!"?

This also makes me believe that you've never worked at a restaurant.

The restaurant/bar could raise the cost of food/drinks 50% to cover the cost of going to an true hourly wage. Most folks would go apeshit over that. A 15-18% tip is expected for average service. Show up and tip like an asshole a few times and see what type of service you get... Lucky if they don't wipe your food on the floor before they serve it to you.

There's really never an excuse for someone to act like an uncivil asshole, their anger should be directed at their employer anyway. Restaurants already have ridiculous markups, especially on pop and alcohol which is marked up 200-300%. They can afford to pay their servers a decent wage, especially franchise restaurants, but they won't because they don't have to.

To the first point: Nah but by the time you raise everyone's wage up from the hostess and bus boys (minimum wage or a bit above) bartenders and servers ($12-18/hour) it would get expensive.

To the last point, you would think so but some people use the "you tip that much?!? Obviously you don't work as hard for your money as I do" excuse

Second, Sapp is an awful person. He plays this big, loveable guy on national TV, but, local guys couldn't stand him and he was an ogre off the field.

Third, not tipping isn't new with Sapp. I know some restaurant owners and managers who aren't shocked by this. Their staff used to argue over who had to provide him service...not because they wanted a big tip, but, because he was such an ass and no one wanted to deal with him.

So, while I wasn't there. Sapp has enough of a history in the local area that I tend to take the servers side on this.

Sapp is guilty here for the love of god. Literally YEARS of people calling into 98 rock with horror stories about this guy coming into their restaurant and going out of his way to be an asshole. I'm not talking about people eating at a place and bugging Sapp for shit, I'm talking about owners or waiters/waitresses. Guy was an amazing football player and he will be loved down here no matter what, but we are also aware of what he was like off the field.
