You're equating 'shitty' with not being nice. Sure, he has a lot to learn about dealing with his staff, but the results and his ability to motivate players to want to run through brick walls for him suggest he is far from shitty.

It might seem harsh, but the goal is to win a championship. If the W's brass didn't think he was capable of this, or for whatever reason didn't think he was a good fit for the future direction of the franchise, move on. Making the playoffs alone doesn't make one a good coach. Even Mike Woodson won 53 games once.

No, making the playoffs doesn't make one a good coach. Hell, I think Scott Brooks and Eric Spoelstra both suck, but that's another conversation. Yes, the ultimate goal is to win a championship and if management doesn't think he can get that done they have every right to fire him. From an outsider's perspective, it doesn't appear to be a smart move at all. It seems too early to say he "can't" win it. The culture of the franchise has turned 180 degrees in the right direction since the day he took the job and the arrow still seems pointed solidly in the right direction. Now, you're risking all of that to essentially start over with a new guy who may not garner the same admiration and respect from the team on the floor. They'll probably be good next season regardless because, if I'm not mistaken, much of the team will be back. What happens after that? Are players more likely to leave because you pissed them off by firing 'their' coach? Granted, the Warriors will likely open the pocketbook pretty wide to try to keep Curry and maybe Thompson (probably not Lee because of age/injury concerns), but that's not a guarantee that they'll stay. You've just increased their chances of bolting by whatever margin of their brains that isn't ruled by money. In other words, they might view this firing as a mistreatment of themselves. What about other important players you'd like to keep but aren't willing to break the bank for? Then again, will they even fit whatever the new guy is trying to do? It just seems like since Jackson doesn't necessarily get along with management they invented an arbitrary and extremely difficult hurdle for him to jump (beating the Clippers even though they were coming in as the solid underdog and undermanned without Bogut).

Guy is a terrible fuckin coach. Managing your assistants is part of the job and it is clear the my way or the highway approach doesn't work.

LOL this thread is hilarious. This is the perfect example of guys never watching a guy coach and just basing their opinion off of win/loss records. The Warriors are a VERY talented team, they are winning despite the absolute atrocious head coaching they have had the last 2 years. He runs NO PLAYS, he is terrible out of TOs, and for every game winning situation since hes been a coach hes told Steph Curry to ISO and do his thing, which has often resulted in hideous 3 point shots because absolutely no play was run. Is he a great motivator? I dont deny that he is. But I want my head coach doing more than just quote historical figures during the timeout. Just because a team has a winning record doesnt necessarily mean the coaching or management were good. Top that all off with not getting along with important figures within the organization and this is what you have. He deserved to get canned and he did. Golden State will be much better off with a coach with some substance. Jackson was lucky that his team fit his coaching style, because they all like to chuck the ball and play free-flowing offense. They could be even better it they're reeled in a little bit. The thing ill give Jackson the most credit for is getting the team to buy-in to playing defense, but that should be done by any coach.

Mark Jackson reminds me of Jim Schwartz's tenure with the Detroit Lions. A sucky team finally got a few good players and became decent...coincidently, Jackson/Schwartz were the coaches of record when this happened. Every other facet of Jackson/Schwartz's coaching was terrible.

I think he's all but a shoe-in to take that job. If he calls Larry and says he's available, he'll be there.

Jackson got the most out of what he had, there's no way the Warriors should have beaten the Clippers but they came awfully close while not having a couple of key players (Bogut, O'Neal).

That said, his lack of experience showed throughout his tenure and the NBA is more about talent than coaching. If you have good players, you'll be able to win 50 games and get bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

I see both sides of the argument but I'm not going to miss him all that much. I think they will be the same team next year (first round losers) if they don't add a healthy, young big man that can log minutes.

It seems many of you put him on that Vinny DelNegro level. Jackson certainly has his issues, but the NBA isn't about the coach. When was the last time a great coach won the championship? I don't think Jackson's flaws as a coach were holding this team back. It is obvious this was not a basketball decision.
