So apparently Fitz and Boldin are bad receivers?
Good Wrs, but not good enough to run that offense on a consistent basis.
They'll put up some decent numbers against teams like Detroit, but if they get back to the superbowl with what I saw last night, I'd be shocked. I'm watching clips of the ''Greatest show on turf'' right now, and the difference between Holt/Bruce/Faulk and Fitzgerald/Boldin/Hightower is night and day.
Torry Holt alone was twice the route runner, smarter, and simply had more speed than Fitzgerald. Isaac Bruce wasn't blessed with the greatest speed, but he made up for it by being smart, and one of the finer route runners I've seen. When Kurt Warner dropped back, more often than not, he was able to release that ball with perfect timing, and those guys would be there. In Arizona, Kurt Warner has to hold onto the ball, and be a typical pocket passer - Kurt Warner is not a typical pocket passer.
In Arizona, he either has to hit Fitzgerald on a crossing route, and throw one up deep in double coverage, because that's what Fitz is good at. That's not what Kurt Warner is best at - He's an accurate, timing based quarterback, built in a system which demands perfection on every route.
Kurt Warner was asked during an interview if the interceptions a few weeks back were his fault - he paused, smiled, and say many things factored into it. It's the first time I've ever seen Kurt Warner almost call out a team mate.. That team mate was clearly Larry Fitzgerald.
If Fitzgerald were to go down for 3 to 4 weeks, I believe that Arizona becomes a more consistent offense with Boldin/Breaston in the lineup. Kurt Warner will focus less on the deep, double coverage shit, and go back to focusing on a passing system, when done right, cannot be stopped. The spiderman act was good enough to catch people off guard last season, but this is a new season, and to be successful again, they have to get back to playing real football, not back yard football.
All of this made me appreciate Holt/Bruce and Faulk even more. They were, without a doubt, the perfect pieces to run a Kurt Warner/Mike Martz system. Arizona simply cannot touch that.
