How far did the attacking mindset get you? Shit teams like Montreal managed to fend you off because they had the quite typical outstanding playoff goaltending and had no problem scoring on you guys without having much of the puck. And Pittsburgh outscored you because they could play enough defence to make 5 goals for count for a win.

Yes, but you can't change it up in the middle of a season and expect anything good to happen. The fact that they made the playoffs is rather surprising to most fans.

They built a team around Ovechkin, Semin, and Backstrom. It's a team that hits hard, rushes the goal and scores points, mainly on cleaning up the trash around the goal.

This team cannot play a defensive hockey game. They give up three goal leads. They were LOSING the other night when they finally said screw this and started attacking the goal again. Defensive hockey requires a lot of energy and persistence.

Hunter wants to build a good defensive team, that's fine. But he should have started after this season. It's obvious that no one wants to play this style. It seems pointless to have Ovechkin and Semin on the ice to have them dump the puck from the neutral zone once they get it.

That is just dumb thinking. So because the team "doesn't want to play a defensive system" he should have just said "ok guys, you go do what you want for the remaining 30 games, I'll chill back here and just make sure the water is still cold, and next season we will work on defence."???

You bring in a new coach to make changes, not keep the same shit that wasn't working before. So you want them to start in training working on the new defence, get a few exhibition games in working on it, then start a regular season like that? Or you have 30 or so games remaining with games that actually mean something and a chance to work on the system when it counts. Washington was on such a downward slope that if they didn't change they probably wouldn't be in the playoffs period. And if they win the division, they should get on their knees and kiss the ice because that is no accomplishment for them. Just means they will be embarrassed by the Devils rather than the Rangers.

Me either. But that this point, the Caps are playing with house money. A month ago I didn't honestly expect them to make it to the playoffs.
