Brock is one dimensional & this you cannot dispute. He showed NOTHING in his second fight, he out wrestled Mir, that's what Brock is a wrestler, he "out muscled" him. No surprise there, his stand up was suspect, Couture exposed Brock in their fight & he's 45yrs old until he got caught with that mammoth shot. He's by far the one who can easiest lose his belt.
actually, I'm going to defend Brock here, he showed some really good grappling technique in the Mir fight, he gave Mir zero space, stayed chest to chest, kept Mirs back to the mat, controlled Mirs wirst/limbs, etc...
I do blame Mir for playing half guard though, I really dont know what he was thinking, you pretty much have no subs or striking options from half guard and it is just for sweeps, so Brock just had to defend the sweep, thats it. If Mir used regular closed guard he could have forced Brock to defend subs and some strikes and get him guessing, plus still have some sweep options
half guard is a very dangerous game to play MMA, we used to call that the 'beatdown' position, guys like Randy rather be in half guard than side control when GnPing
For half guard to be effective you half to get on your side and ball up you body, thats what is going to get the sweep, Brock used some good technique plus with great strength to totally shut down Mirs half guard
EDIT: I would have to watch it again to see if Mir even had a chance to get to full guard, I think he would have though, just cant remember
