Why the hate for the HW GP from the MMA ‘fans’ and ''media'?

It all depends on where you are looking. Certain mainstream sites are bad for being pro-Zuffa. Yahoo notably. Expecting anything else out of them is a waste of time and energy. I do understand to an extent why they end up that way, but it doesn't mean I like it.

As for fan comments, I've mostly seen muted excitement than dislike for the entire tournament. If you are seeing negativity on places like Sherdog or The UG... Well, that's what those places do. Its either trolling or just haters. Trying to take those people as indiciative of "most fans" is far worse than looking at us here as that.

I think thats the key. This is the biggest thing SF has ever done, delivering a number of fighters it can barely deliver once a year, let alone three times. The fans want to see something. Once that first even happens, I think excitement will ump

They lead the show off with Brock and JDS being named the next coaches of TUF! lmfao, here SF has the GP announcement, half the of fights dates are set and TUF is the first story, but wait, it gets better!

They didnt even mention it once during the entire show!

They have to cater to their audience, truth is most fans/viewers could care less about SF. So unfortunately TUF was the bigger story of the week. I was trying to get a friend of mine hyped for the tourney, but he quickly turned the talk to the TUF announcement, tis the woes of not being the company that screams the loudest.

Be realistic, Rob. The sports media is no different than the regular media - they go with what they believe will draw the viewers. The UFC is the big dog - of course they are going to get more attention. Lesnar is one of the best-drawing UFC fighters there has been thus far (sad as that is), so yeah, him being a coach on TUF is going to be big news for the average fan. Talking about Stann and Edgar makes sense because they are fighters that the average fan is getting to know.

From the perspective of a network, where is the proof that the average fan cares enough about Strikeforce to keep watching? The hardcore fans care, but that's a small segment of the potential audience for ESPN. If the network believes - or even suspects - that talking about Strikeforce in-depth is going to lead to a significant portion of viewers tuning out, why bother? Same goes if they were to talk about DREAM, Shooto, Bellator, K1, whatever.

One could argue that the media should work to educate fans so they do care beyond the UFC, for the sake of growing the sport. That's unrealistic to the point of being naive. Its not the job of media to promote and get fans to recognize stuff - that's what the promotions should be doing. The reality is that the media is a business and its going to do what they believe is going to generate the most business, even if that means ignoring something that is potentially huge for the sport.

That's not to forgive completely bias reporting, like some of the stuff Yahoo puts up. But in terms of overlooking the tournament, there are reasons. You might not like it, but its a business.

First of all, I don't care, I'm not talking business here, I'm talking about about equality and the completely bias MMA reporting that plagues this sport, I am pushing for change, I am calling for a revolution, not the business as usual crap that is trying to ruin the sport of MMA, I don't need lessons on why, I already know that, I just call it like I see it and I name names

I'm excited about a Lesnar/JDS fight, but I really couldnt give a single fuck who coaches TUF, ever.

Then stop bitching about it. Just like Zuffa and SF are businesses, ESPN is a business. They focus on what they think is most important to their audience. It is the same reason why they may show MLS highlights instead of EPL highlights. Even though the EPL news may be bigger, we really don't care enough for them to waste time reporting it. This is no different. UFC is much more newsworthy than SF most of the time.

It has nothing to do with bias and everything to do with money.

If Fedor and Overeem were going to be on TV for 13 weeks, interacting, promoting their fight, that'd be news.

When Brock and JDS are scheduled to do it, it's also news.

3 out of the last 4 "coaching" matchups have led to some tremendously hyped fights. 1 of the greatest KOs ever. And overall continue to do a great job of showcasing personalities we would never know without it.
I much prefer 13 weeks of TUF to 1 hour of boring snoozaroo Countdown or overrated 24/7 for boxing.

That Im just saying in and of itself outside of anything SF..


I dont know what to tell you guys. MMA coverage is dog shit. I very rarely read anything anymore outside of what you guys post on here. I still watch Inside MMA but MMLive over-coverage of tuf fights is transparent and lame. I liken MMA to the Tech Blog world where theres a bunch of clueless blowhards who happen to get traffic because they happen to cater to fanboys.


The SF tourney is fantastic news despite the stupid continuation of SF lousy belt policies.
Brock on TUF is huge news as well.

Both should have gotten a ton of positive coverage.
