It's like clockwork, every year around this time.

How's trying to stake claim to a title that's not theirs working out for the Saints?

I never cared for, or put much stock in self appointed titles.

That Dallas appointed/named themselves America's Team is a joke.

If you have to anoint yourself something, then it really means shit.

On the other hand, if you are given some moniker/name/title from your peers or by the majority of fans (not just your own fan base), then the name/title means something.

So Dallas being America's team is just a flat out joke, but great Marketing move by them.

Cowboys didn't dub themselves America's Team, NFL Films did.

Tex Schraam did nothing to diminish it, that's for sure, but it damn sure wasn't his or anyone affiliated with the team's idea.

It's not a name that can be passed around, it's their nickname. Just like Green Bay is "Titletown" and the Oilers were "Luv Ya Blue".

That article is clueless. The title "America's Team" has nothing to do with Jerry. It has nothing to do with the stadium, or the cheerleaders or the circus that has always surrounded the team. It's who they are. Get over it. They were "America's Team" long before Jerry showed up, and they'll be "America's Team" long after he's dead. The Dallas Texans have absolutely zero to do with them either.

It's hilarious that the team hasn't won jack shit in 15 years and yet people are still so butthurt by the moniker that this exact same topic comes up right around the same time each year.

Every.

Single.

Year.

It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic.

I should bring back my "America's Team" sig just so people can predictably catch feelings about it.
 
I'm not sure who coined the phrase, but Dallas was called America's Team because they were on national TV every week. In the 70's that was a big deal. The term has morphed into a different meaning, but that's what it meant initially.
