Hey fellas...I'm mostly a sports gamer, but, I'm getting kind of bored. This whole new Mass Effect 2 craze has me kind of jonesing to play something other than sports games...but, I am unsure where to start...

I'd like to play some ME2, but, then I think...I should play ME1 first.

So, what are some classics that must be played?

ME as mentioned, is good shit.

Saints Row 1 or 2 would be good fun if you like sandbox games. Less BS and more fun than what you get in GTA but GTA is more technically impressive.

If you wanted to dive into a cheap XBLA game, Shadow Complex was on many critics top 10 games list, let alone XBLA games. I loved it, good 5-7 hours of fun for like 10 bucks I think.

ME1 is great and well worth it....its worth 60 now, but at 20 its freaking steal.
its got alot of story telling going on, so if your not a fan of reading in games then rethink this one. i will say that i am not a fan of reading in games, but when the story and characters are this good, i dont care how much i have to read....if you like star wars or sci fi in general, (or even if you dont) then get this game now.

fallout 3 will take over your life as well. a RPG shooter....you can play it as a FPS or 3rd person shooter. its such a deep RPG, but its story is not as good as ME imo.....and fallouts ending was weak sauce. Still, i got well over 120 hrs in 1 play.....Wash DC after a nuclear fallout? how could u go wrong. Awesome game.

did you play bioshock? totally worth playing....anytime a game can pull off chooseing between killing or saving little girls, you know its worth playing.

and like KG said, the saints row series is excellent. 2 is better since its newer and has tweaks to improve, but 1 sets up 2 and both are better than GTA4 imo. its a funner experience with so much customization....great game, but if u can only buy 1, get SR2

did u play Rainbow six vegas 1? R6 2 was shit imo compared to 1....but 1 is so much fun to play as a tactical shooter. you have yourself and also control 2 guys on your team. its a fun game and worth playing thru.

out of all these, mass effect 1 is the obvious choice. at 20 bucks it is an AWESOME value. its like a great movie that u didnt care about that everyone else said was great....and u watch now and think to yourself, how the fuck did i miss out on this one.

I've heard great things about these games, but I never got into them, because, as I said, I am more into the sports games. But, considering I'm getting bored with these...I need to branch out and I want to start with some classics.

You can get Gears of War on the cheap....both of them (if you haven't played them yet).

edit: if you like racing....Burnout Paradise...has tons of DLC (free & pay for). They just announced they are done with creating DLC for the game.....it's been out for 2 years.

I've heard great things about these games, but I never got into them, because, as I said, I am more into the sports games. But, considering I'm getting bored with these...I need to branch out and I want to start with some classics.

i am just like you. i was always a sports gamer. But now i feel like sports games are just repetitive and more so a expansion of the previous version.

i have branched out and sports games are now a secondary choice for me. i get alot more from a deep RPG or online shooter then i ever did from a sports game.

I'm the same way. On the PS2 I maybe had 2-3 games that weren't sports (GTA, TimeSplitters) the rest was ALL sports. The 360, I started that way but now would consider myself a secondary sports gamer.

I play mostly sports games well only sports games until COD4 came out. and most of the popular games, Bioshock, Rainbow Six Vegas, Halo, Fallout, Oblivion, and basically anything else had no stay power with me. Just not interested and not my style of stuff. I didnt even like first person shooters until COD4 and so far thats the only nonsports game i love and can keep playing.

But anyway i tried Mass Effect like in November/October and its just like everything else i just get bored of it because its not my style. I still try to play it today because of the lull in sports games but i only have 6 hours in and i skip thru all the dialog.

Just a warning.

The thing with sports games, is that I am too much of a perfectionist and the games can be far too unrealistic...it gets frustrating.

I am looking to turn my brain off for some games and just play.

I used to be like this i would only play sports games. Rainbow Six Vegas 1 in its heyday online, and Fallout 3 really opened my eyes to other genres of games.

Dead Rising... it is THE carefree, kill a whole bunch of shit game. I have CrackDown but felt very disappointed after playing InFamous.
