Youkilis dealt to White Sox

There was no way to trade Youk at a better value. At this point, holding onto him would just create more "clubhouse trouble", and by that I mean the Boston media would just continue starting controversy about asking why Youk is sitting, etc. That's how its been in the last week, and honestly, between that and the chance of injury, get him out ASAP.
 
As I posted before, any change at 3B for the White Sox will be an improvement. Sounds like a win-win deal already.
 
There's just no way it's a bad deal. Lillibridge is a super utility guy with a -0.1 WAR. Zach Stewart is 25, but based off everything you can reasonably tell he's not going to be an ace, probably tops out as a 4-5 and that's IF he gets to that next level. Even more so, Red Sox pay $5 million so there's really no way this doesn't work out for the White Sox.
 
Good deal for the White Sox, not much given up and they get a solid player back in return. Not sure how much Youk is going to improve but it's better than what they are currently trotting out there.
 
Even if Youk stinks and misses games with his old cranky body, this trade can be nothing but a win for Chicago, considering the production they were getting from the position all season.

Youk/Dunn/Konerko was the SABR 2/3/4 wet dream circa 2005.

I just realized that this is the same Zach Stewart who was involved in the Scott Rolen/CIN/TOR trade. Cant believe the former "cant miss" prospect is on team #4 at this point.

Red Sox pretty much had to do this, so there are no losers here, but this is a no lose deal for CHI.

It's a definite example of how to destroy value of a once valuable commodity. See also Swisher, Nick Chicago White Sox 2008.
 
Swisher had a bad year no doubt, but being managed by a loudmouth tool who bitches about you through the media during an outlier year is a surefire way to end up getting Jeff Marquez for a career 117 OPS+ player.
