Played two games of the 5 minute quarter demo, once with each team on All-Pro difficulty. I won my first game with the Steelers 22-19 but then lost when I was the Cardinals 21-7. Here are my impressions thus far:
-USAF Thunderbirds was a nice touch. The little facts before the game was cool as well.
-Willie Parker dominated in my first game and had something like 11 carries for 145 yards. His second carry was an 80 yard touch down run in which he broke out of two different tackles. Little unrealistic but it could happen.
-The tackles look really fluid most of the time, sometimes there this weird tackle that makes the receiver go flying but most of the time they look great. McFadden ran down Limas Sweed in the open field on one play and did this sweet leg sweep thing with his hand.
-Animations are very fluid, game speed is slower like everyone's been saying but I think slower is better.
-No QB pressure really. I didn't have any sacks in either of my games and my QB was under pressure maybe 5 times total in two games.
-Had one play where I ran a PA screen pass and Warner got hit from behind while throwing so the ball just kind sputtered out around the defensive line and Keisel grabbed it. Nice touch instead of defensive lineman never being able to grab those.
-The WR/DB interaction is nice. Threw one bomb to Fitzgerald and he made a nice little turn to adjust to the ball instead of just running blindly and grabbing it.
-You actually have to be smart when throwing the ball, sometimes you'll be able to the thread the needle but it can end badly, I threw two picks trying to force the ball. In previous Maddens this would work on the cpu but not in this game.
-Timing is also really important when throwing the ball. Sometimes if the QB throws it early the ball will just miss and land on the ground. This rarely happened in previous Maddens, nice to see that sometimes the ball just misses and their isn't a interception.
-QB throwing motions look much better and you can tell when they are really unleashing the ball and just throwing a dump pass.
-Showing the quarteback talking on the phone is cool as well. Also seeing Whisenhunt berate Kurt Warner after throwing a pick was funny.
Overall, I enjoyed the demo. The lower game speed made everything more fluid. After playing the demo, I'm going to be buying this game.
For the record, I'm a big time EA hater and it looks like this Ian Cummings guy is taking the series in the right direction.Last edited by mgoblue2290; 07-23-2009, 01:14 PM.Comment
