What do you define as "sim" Madden?

So, metaphorically speaking, our physiology basically has the universe mapped out and you're thinking it needs to be taught addition & subtraction.

The bump rule isn't bumping from the line, but u can take a cb and bump a
cpu wr waaaay off his route downfeild with no pass interference call. thats what that rule means.Comment

I see. Usually I take my safety and bump the slot or TE right of the line, though I don't do it down field. Still, some of those rules don't seem sim to me.So, metaphorically speaking, our physiology basically has the universe mapped out and you're thinking it needs to be taught addition & subtraction.

I'm saying as a QB you leave the pocket and roll closer (but not all the way) to the sidelines. Basic roll outs. You then plant your feet and throw down the field.Comment

Alot of the rules for ggml are in place to make a guidline for people and common sense can be taking into account by a commish , the star receiver thing was kind of an 08 rule to stop the constant moss bomb and could be deleted im sure of , most if not all of the league agrees to these rules and everytime one is made theres noramlly a vote on it so call them needless call them waht u want , if 32 people agree on them and decide to play by them then thats great i beleive . Thing is you could say all of them rules are pointless if you want spydr but like i said before 32 people agreed on them and nearly all of them have or will be voted on at one time or another .
I dont think one leagues rules can show the meaning of sim ever in my mind but aslong as the league continues to allow owners to vote to remove or add new rules (majority vote wins) then i dont see a bad thing personally
ps.sorry if i repeated myself lolLast edited by Archer; 10-30-2008, 12:51 PM.Comment

Let me ask you guys a question:
Is a deep bomb to Moss all game a bad thing because it's not like the real thing, or because it's boring to play against?Comment
-
It depends , bombing a rc to randy moss or a "jetpack" on 08 that he cud do over 3 - 4 ppl is not relistic and is very unenjoyble to play against but thats not really the point , like i said that rule was more for 08 where moss could leap 80feet into the air and catch over ppl like there was no tmorrow in all honesty
ps. i used moss as an example i know MANY players could do that on 08Comment

It's not like the real thing, though it happens to also be boring to play against. The Pats don't sit there all game and throw only streaks to moss hoping he'll catch one, there are circumstances where they might do two or three back to back because they see they coverage favors it. But they never just chuck it up over and over all game hoping he'll catch one.Comment

I don't see why people choose to play sim when it has so many rules.
I lab plays for 4th and short so if I'm backed up in my redzone and I have the confidence to go for it then so be it.
I could see why some people would complain last year with the rocketcatches, nano's, and DBL WR Pass but now they're gone. It's just straight up football. Like I said before it's Madden not head coach, if you want a 100% sim experience you should purchase head coach.Comment

I never choose to play sim. That's just the way i've always played the game even before i started playing online and in lgs. It's not like i came online and looked at sim and looked at freestyle and picked one, that's just the way i've always played the game.Comment

Sim is in the eye of the beholder. Some people who call themselves sim players thinks it's not sim to call the same play over and over, while others who call themselves sim players say that's just football. Some sim players think it's ok to go for it in 4th down situations. Others disagree.
On a grand scale, sim play can't truly be defined because even people who say they want a realistic football experience can't agree on what that means. That's not something that will probably ever happen and I think that's ok.
In smaller groups such as leagues, the sim experience can work pretty well. Because you're focusing on a smaller group of people, it's easier to pull together a few guys who share very similar ideas about rules and regulations. And in a sim league those rules are well established and regulated, and by joining the league everyone involved is essentially agreeing to that clear cut set of rules. I've been in leagues where I didn't completely agree with the rules, but followed them because I joined the league.
When I ran what was considered a sim Madden website, we started out with pretty clear cut rules but then realized that's not something that would work on that scale. We ended up posting some "recommendations" as opposed to rules, create some rules about not fighting about style of play openly on the forums, and suggested that the best experience was finding a group of people to play games with that shared similar ideas about what was most fun/realistic.
I think that's the key to being happy with your experience. Understanding and respecting that there are different opinions on the matter and getting in some games with people who feel the same way you do. As long as people are pretty straightforward about what they are looking for and respectful of others, it ends up working out ok.Comment
