It definitely seems a tad slower on PS3, but not by much. Even patches are nearly identical on PS3 and 360 for me.
As far as Saluki's issue, I recently heard that the PS3 requires you to have double the HDD space of whatever it is you're downloading. Why? I have no idea. But in your case you would still have a few gigs to spare, but maybe it won't let you cut it that close?

They do it to allocate space for patches and such. It really shouldn't require half but it does
For some reason even though I have 20gigs if free space psn tells me that I don't have space for a 9 gig game

That shouldn't be happening. I've been hovering around the 10-20 GB free space on my HDD for a while now, and I haven't had any problems rotating the retail games from PS+.
Extensive time with downloads on all platforms with the same results. Just as quick no matter what system. Boils down to possibly router or modem problems
If that is the case then it is pure crazy talk. I have both and games have taken over 24 hours to DL on PSN.
I had a big argument with a guy from the Gamer Husbands a while back about the whole downloads on PS3 vs 360 thing. It got to the point where I started capturing patch downloads on video on my phone and I think I uploaded a few on my YouTube channel.
But it still does seem to be a case by case basis which I would imagine would mean it's a personal internet issue. I know years ago there wasn't any argument because the Xbox blew the PS3 out of the water. I know that you could increase uyour PS3 speeds by opening up ports on your router and other shit that I tried messing with and it just made things worse. But as of the past year, maybe two years, that hasn't been the case.
Also, keep in mind that I have a podunk internet service that gets me a 10mb connection and I'm running my consoles wirelessly. Take that for what it's worth.
I would also like to add that I didn't have any isses with my old 60GB or my current slim PS3, but my wife's old 40GB does seem to download shit much, much slower than mine. Her console is also right next to the router in the next room so I don't know what the deal is there.

Great post Twiggy. And yes I have an old PS3 so maybe that is the issue. I just know for a fact that it has taken DAYS sometimes for it to download new games. I also remember Gerstmann saying something like Persona 4 Golden was estimated to finish downloading 800 hours after he started it ( Vita but still). I can only speak from personal experience and there has never been a time where I've said "wow did that download fast" in my entire timebas a PS+ member.
