So, I really, really enjoyed Runner2 back when it first came out for 360. Great music, fun graphics, and tons of replayability with the ability to perfect, perfect +, and perfect +++ every level. That being said, I found the game to be really, really easy, for the most part.
Hearing basically the opposite of its predecessor Bit.Trip.Runner, I fired it up the last couple of nights, and holy shit. That game is not fucking around. For starters, there is no midway checkpoint. The game seems to move much faster, and is WAY less forgiving. Getting perfects isn't TOO bad if you're willing to put up with the fact that you'll probably do some of the more difficult levels 4 times (and some of them are LONG), but getting a perfect and then ANOTHER perfect in the retro stage? Holy shit.
Good game though, and I love the 8-bit spin of the music. Would recommend it if you like the runner game genre, and I'm pretty sure the thing would run on an Apple 2, so anyone can play it.Comment

But seriously, I haven't played runner2 yet but it makes me a bit sad that it sounds like they made it a ton easier.* Chrispy logs into KGs account to see what misogi wrote* [05:53 PM]Comment

I don't know. Hard is a decent challenge at some points, but Normal might as well be called Easy and Easy is only worth it for the Perfect +++.
The real big difference is the midway checkpoint, honestly. It makes the game easier IMO because it removes any pressure or frustration that you find building towards the end of Runner 1. That and the retro levels are a cake walk and I am curious about their inclusion at all.
Still, it's a fantastic game, just not quite as evil as the original.Comment

The checkpoints definitely make things easier, but they're also easy to skip if you want that challenge. The only time I've used them is when the level had branches and I needed to map out how to get the most points with all the gold bars. In particular, one of the optional levels in the first world has some not so obvious paths that I kept missing until I started running through the second half to find where I was messing up.

In general, I would have just prefered that they drop them, at the very least on Easy and Normal. That might have made for a better balance. I'm not really a fan of ignoring game mechanics to make a game harder.Comment
