    This really pisses me off and it should piss you off too. I don't know who else has noticed this and I don't know if they are doing this intentionally or not to try to take advantage of unsuspecting customers. If they are then that is downright disgusting.

    I've only noticed this recently but what I'm referring to is pre-paid content, mostly from these Season Passes which have become so popular. The first time I noticed it was with the Saints Row 3 season pass. As I had mentioned before there seemed to be a problem when I entered my code provided by THQ. Nothing ever seemed to enter my download queue and when I tried re-entering the code it said that it had been redeemed. When I booted up the game it showed that I had downloaded the pass so I was good. I guess because the file was so small it just downloaded in the blink of an eye.

    But this is where the problem comes in. When I went back to the dashboard and found the Saints Row season pass content it still showed 1600 points. I clicked on it and got all the way to the "Confirm this purchase" page and it still showed 1600 points, for something that I already paid for and downloaded!

    Why does this "superior" Xbox Live service not have the ability to recognize content that I have already purchased or downloaded? Because the PS3 sure as shit can...

    I had the same issue with Gears 3. I bought teh Season Pass, and honestly regret it every day because it seems like they just end up releasing the same content a few weeks later for free. Fucking assholes. But anyway, I bought the season pass FROM THE FUCKING DASHBOARD this time, not using a code. When the first DLC released I go to the dash and find it, and guess what? It still shows that I need to pay for it. Again I'm thinking that maybe once I get to the purchase screen it will change to free. Nope. So luckily I back out. I then pop the Gears disc and and VOILA! The fucking game recognizes that I have the Season Pass and prompts me to download the latest DLC content. So why the fuck doesn't the dash do that?

    The latest situation was with the Back to Karkand pack for Battlefield 3 that released yesterday on 360. When it released last week on PS3 my PS3 automatically recognized that I had downloaded the Limited Edition version of EA's online pass for the game so when I checked the PSN store for the content, which was also much easier to find mind you, it was listed as FREE, like it fucking should be! All I had to do was download it. So back to the 360. Not only did it take forever to find the ass on content for one of the biggest games this year, but when I finally did it still showed 1200 MS points. There was also a 2.07GB "update" download available that said you would need to get the latest fixes and to play the Karkand update, but not that it included the Karkand upate. So I downloaded that thinking that maybe after I did the fucking shitbox would recognize that I had the Limited Edition and the price of the Karkand pack would change to FREE. Nope. Still 1200 MS points. But when I boot up the game, like Gears, I get prompted that I have the Karkand pack. Unreal.

    Now you know there are thousands of unsuspecting people that will download this shit thinking that when they hit confirm they won't get charged because they already paid for it. If M$ is intentionally doing this bullshit to take advantage of those people then that is some shady ass shit.

    I definitely wouldn't put it past them.

    And please don't come in here with that bullshit "Well people should know better."
    It seems like youre pissed off b/c you were confused, Playstation has a method of using the season pass that is different than XBOX, you assumed they used the same method and now youre ranting. Gears is the only season pass that Ive ever purchased , So I can only speak from my experience; popping in my disk and automatically DLing any available DLC seems easy enough, without ever having to visit the marketplace IMO

    however....

      The only thing I'm "confused" about is why isn't the same practice in place on Xbox? There is absolutely no legitimate reason that it isn't in place. The only reasons that it is like that are laziness and/or trying to scam people out of more money.

      Even going back to the LA Noire Season Pass, it was the same on PSN. I'm not sure how it was on Xbox.

      It just doesn't make sense that such a high profile and lauded service like Xbox Live doesn't have software in place (from a software GIANT like MS no less) that detects when you pre-paid for this shit. Absolutely no sense at all. None.

        The DLC downloads as soon as its available, as soon as im ready to play the game. I dont have to search for anything, I dont have to visit the marketplace, its as simple as DLing an update. That seems pretty streamlined to me.

        But I guess I could buy a season Pass on PSN, and rant about how it doesnt work the same way as on XBL. But I wont, bc there arent any other seaon passes im interested in, and bc I understand that PSN and XBL do some things differently. Oh and niether one of them have burned me yet, so Im not salty at either.

          But just because you only have one Season Pass doesn't make it right. Especially you. You only seem to ever play Gears so of course this doesn't really affect you. When is Gears not in your console?

            just b/c it confused you into a rant doesnt make it wrong, seems like 360 season passes work in the same way for Mortal Kombat and SR3 from what I've heard.

            irrelevant, I could purchase SR3 and a season pass on the 360 and the DLC would automatically DL as soon as I pop in the disc in the same way.

            Now if I bought it on the PS3, I guess I could post a rant about it for making me navigate into the PS Store and having to manually DL it bc it didnt do it automatically, but I wouldn't...cuz its saltyness for the sake of saltyness

                So you think that is a better way of doing things? For instance, I just popped in Gears to download this update. It prompts me that there is new content to download. I hit Yes and it starts downloading. But guess what? I can't do fuck else. I can't back out and let it download in the background while I play something else or even playing fucking Gars for that matter. Nope, I have to just sit and wait for a 2GB download to finish! Awesome!

                So instead of the PSN way of downloading it from the store and going about your business you have to do it this way on Xbox. Yeah Med, you're right, this is much better.

                It's not really open world like GTA. It's more like Mafia where there is technically an open world but you are just driving in to go from mission to mission. I only played the first one and fucking loved it. The story was so cool because you played from both sides. You played as a gangster and did all this wild shit like torching a bar of your rival. Then you went through as a cop and got to see how things played out from the other side of the law. It was one of the first games that I ever remember playing that had a regenerative health system. You would have to lean your character against a wall to get your strength back. It was a really cool premise but I'm guessing the controls, graphics, etc don't hold up at all these days.

                      1st of all I find it hilarious that waiting for a 2gb install annoys you, especially after previous rants about paying to unlock things that are already on the disc..LuLz indeed

                      Regardless, your original rant was about unsavory business tactics and M$ trying to trick you into purchasing the same DLC twice, NOW its...well yeah it DL automatically just like an update[as I previously said] But I Can't do anything else but Wait!

                      you've realized that the original reasons behind your rant were dumb, so now you have a new reason to justify your saltyness.

                      Let me sum this all up in the way we do it here on the VSN Forums

                        Small note. The one "gangster" character tried separating himself from the mob if I remember correctly, but they kidnap his wife and kid and "pull him back in" as they say.

                        Here are the missions I was referring to They literally mirror each other...
                        [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkfxsOM45fQ"]The Getaway - Mission 2 - Burning Bridges - YouTube[/ame]

                        [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLR5qKoOY58&feature=related"]The Getaway - Mission 15 - Disturbance In Soho - YouTube[/ame]

                        It's really cool how they do it. In mission 2 you go to the bar, kill all the rival gang member and torch the bar. Right around mission 13 is when you start playing as the cop/detective. In mission 15 you actually respond to the disturbance and fire at the bar and see it from the eyes of the cop.

                          I will say this to add to Twiggs annoyance about this. I knew the Back to karkland map pack came otu but I didn't want to play BF3 at the time. So I figured while I was at my computer doing shit I'd let it download. Went into the dashboard looking for the AD they usually throw at you with high release map packs, couldnt find it so I went into the marketplace, into BF3, found the mappack, triggered to DL it got all the way to the end and see they are still gonna charge me 12000 points, so now Im like fuck man, gotta go get up put the damn disc in, DL the update, DL the map pack, and waste more time just because it wasn't free on the marketplace.

                          These aren't big problems, but they are an annoying inconvenience that can easily be solved.

                            This where you, and anyone else, goofed. You should have switched your console on, signed into xbox live, and went back to your computer. Then logged into xbox.com, searched BF3 and added the dlc to your qeue and let it download.

                                I'm channeling my inner-Twigg here but, for what conceivable reason could MS have to charge 80 points for the Bastion DLC? There are no achievements attached, and the developer literally came out and said "Hey, it's free for everything else, it only costs something for 360 because MS made us make it so....so it's the minimum cost."

                                It seems so silly to me, but I guess that is just an example of MS' outdated handling of DLC in general.
