    Let's Go All The Way...

Looked in the bargain bin at the local K-Mart (one day I'm just going to say "fuck it" and hit up the Waterfront Mission and buy whatever cheap old system and bounty of games they have on hand) the other day...

Found and bought a copy of Binary Domain for $15, a copy of Assassin's Creed II for $20, a copy of Yakuza of the Dead for $20 and a copy of the DS' Aliens: Infestation.

Felt like the Island of Misfit Toys but for decent niche games that never got a shot at the big time.

And ACII because they had to put them somewhere to make room for ACIII.

So more on my eccentric purchase:

When downloading the game data for Binary Domain onto your HD, the game uses the Sixaxis on the control to simulate the hands on screen as you move the screen in front of you.

A song from the sound track (random Jap-Pop with techno mixed in) plays and you can swap a few stills to look at until the game finishes installing.

Also, every image simulates 3-D (like what you see in the movies nowadays) so when you turn the controller, you can see behind the image.

      Pretty neat trick.

It's not enough for FTL to kill me, but no, it likes to hold me down and just repeatedly wail on my nuts as well.

          Further analysis:

The game runs like a normal 3rd-person Squad Shooter.

Aside from yourself, you can issue orders to other teammates to take out enemies, get into cover, etc.

The rub is, there's also the option to issue said orders using a game mic. :michaelscott:

Best part is, the voice recognition isn't perfect (you gotta say specific lines like what ME3 does with the Kinect on 360) so it'll pick background noise if you don't adjust the values before hand.

So at any moment, you can get Paul Rudd'd like Ray Lewis did in that one Madden Commercial.

I like the Playstation all-stars game, BUT is there anything to the game apart from doing "play now" kind of games?

I've been playing a lot of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning aka The Game That Never Ends. I literally have been going area by area doing side quests. I'm at about level 22, and I've barely done any of the main story line. Now I should say that I am enjoying the game, but I can see why a lot of people complain about there being too many things to do.

I will say that I like the level scaling they implemented in the game as it makes it very hard to encounter an enemy that will outright destroy you. Each area/dungeon scales to the level of your character the first time you enter it, and as long as you clear out each area's side quests before moving on, the enemies will keep you on your toes during combat. As I unfortunately found out, the downside is that if you decide to just run around and explore the (mostly accessible) world at a low level, those areas will always be scaled to that low level character, and you won't get very much XP later on when you decide to do missions in those areas.

I love that game. My best strategy so far has been to get at least one Mantis member and beam them to enemy ships and disable their shields/crew late in the game. I'm always having a hard time getting enough scrap to upgrade my power and shields or weapons enough to do well after the fifth sector.

After trying out most of the voice recognition, I've come to realize how many times I can say the word "fuck" and not get a good response.

I got the game to recognize 97% of what I was saying and then I stumble on "fuck" and "nope" for some stupid reason.

Which is weird because the "puh" sound in "nope" and "stupid" are the same when I say them and the game's cool when I tested the latter.

Good idea. I just find that I always get overzealous with the spending of my scrap, by the time I get to a store I rarely have enough for a transporter. That and I consider it a must to get the cloaking device, even though it is very expensive. When upgraded it is beastly.

Have you beaten it? I can get to the final ship on Easy, but I still have yet to beat his first form. My best set up since I got the game, I dicked around too much in the final sector and the rebel flagship got too close to the Federation base, which is basically instant game over.

I don't think I've made it past the sixth sector. I always run into an enemy ship with at least three shield bars and an EMP cannon, and I get wrecked.

I can't remember when you unlock the Engi Cruiser, but it's pretty solid. You use ION stuff and drones, but they work out pretty well in terms of getting to the end, but I find it isn't the effective against the final ship (just not powerful enough). The Kestrel can deal out some serious damage, but once enemies have larger shields and better engines (aka they dodge every missile you fire) it can be a bitch.

The more I use the voice command stuff for Binary Domain, the more potential I think it could have had.

Of course this is after seeing Kinect tech demos from way back and this game being more of a base 3PS title with little to add other than "great job" and "awesome" when you down a 70 story tall monster.

Also, the online MP is more barren than the Salt Flats (to be expected).

Yeah, this is my jam. I had the final ship nearly beat once and then it started dodging and beat me. And this was on easy.

I can typically get to the final zone on easy. 3-4 consistently on normal, and then if I am lucky a bit further

I had my first encounter with chryssalids in XCOM.

Bastards nearly wiped out my squad.
