That's if it's fixed in 24 hours. If it takes something more than pushing out an update then I'd say it's at least as bad as the RROD. Yes, multiple console failures but it wasn't EVERY console failing all at once. That kind of makes a difference.
If they end up having to do some sort of recall it's going to be way worse.
Of course if they can't fix it it'll be as bad. I figured that much would be implied.Comment

It is also my understanding that if you play a game offline and earn a trophy you may end up losing all of your trophies or not get credit for any new trophies once the situation is fixed/resolved.
Personally, I'm leaving my PS3 OFF until notified by Sony of what to do to fix it.
I'd agree, in the interest of just playing it safe, I'm not touching my PS3 until I hear more. Also, this article from G4 makes it sound like Sony would prefer that nobody (even Slim owners) get online for a time:

Yeah I got the YLOD on my PS3 a couple months ago but I fixed it just somehow busted up my usb slots. I'm planning on buying a new PS3 slim anyway.
