KZ2 was horrible. the classes were so unbalanced and for whatever reason aiming down the sights wasnt tht much more accurate then just shooting.

im gonna rent this game then get the beta like strahanfan92 said.

SOCOM 4 Ships Out April 19th, New Multiplayer Video

            [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6etcKc80b4M[/ame]

Earlier this week at the Zipper headquarters in Redmond, WA, we invited the media and 18 SOCOM community members to check out the latest version of our game. Not only did they get an update on the progress of our single-player campaign, they were also treated to an extensive look at several of our multiplayer modes, which, as any SOCOM fan will tell you, is absolutely the game’s bread and butter.

Early next week, we’ll have another update on the PlayStation and SOCOM blogs to let you know what members of the community thought about their visit to Redmond and their hands-on time with SOCOM 4. In the meantime, we’d love for you to check out our “Not For Self” multiplayer trailer by clicking on the video above.

Also, for you veteran SOCOM fans out there, head on over to GameStop.com and bring back classic SOCOM memories with another new trailer, this one for the GameStop pre-order exclusive “Abandoned” Map!

The good news is that this is just the beginning of an upcoming flood of SOCOM goodness. As we count down the days and weeks to April 19, you can expect plenty of news, details and media to get you hyped up for what we think is the best SOCOM game yet. Enjoy the ride!

              Multiplayer Preview and Details
              • 5-player co-op Mode
              • 32 player support in multiplayer
              • Clan support for 128 members and Clan battles
              • Four multiplayer modes: Suppression, Uplink, Last Defense, and a secret mode that will be announced at a later date. Uplink is Zipper’s take on Capture the Flag, and Last Defense will have players capturing and controlling points on the map. The first team to do so will earn a beacon which will show the location of the enemy’s base to be destroyed by an air-strike.
              • Custom matches allows you to choose options such as weapon restrictions, cover, and the ability to revive teammates.
              • Players will also be able to earn tactical strikes in most of the multiplayer modes if they perform certain tasks, and each mode has its own way of earning them. Suppression for example requires a kill streak to earn an airstrike, and holding down R2 unleashes the hurt on wherever you want it to be located. If you die before you are able to activate the air strike you lose it all together when you spawn.
              • There will be rewards you can earn through tactical play. A reward called Guardian Angel for example gives you more XP if you are defending a teammate as they are achieving an objective.
              • Socom 4 will feature custom play lists, and the Socom community can participate in the fun by giving their feedback for ranked rooms created by Zipper.
              • Each weapon you take into battle will have a progression bar under it, and every time you level up in that weapon you unlock a mod.
              • Team killers will be punished by being kicked out automatically if they kill their teammates too many times during a match.
              • The “Arcade” mode allows you to re-spawn and use the cover system in multiplayer, or you can switch to classic which plays like old school Socom with no re-spawn, no cover system, no regenerating health, and chat being limited to only dead teammates.
              • Every maps supports all game modes and player counts, and preordering Socom 4 will get you an exclusive map called Abandoned which offers Suppression exclusively.

              Gamespot video interview

So how is Zipper approaching this latest game in the long-running tactical shooter series? The strategy, it seems, lies in balance and choice. On the one hand, you've got new features borrowed from other modern shooters--things like regenerating health, the ability to snap to cover, and a leveling system that earns you new weapons and upgrades as you gobble up experience points on the battlefield. But for every one of those changes, you'll find a thread that leads right back to the tactical roots of the series. It's there in the way you take far less damage before dying than most shooters. It's there in the way you're rewarded for reviving a fallen squadmate. It's there in the way you can dance on dead enemies. All right, so maybe that last one isn't exactly tactical, but…it was in the older games, and it's here too. Trust us. We did the robot on a dead insurgent and earned 10 experience points for it.

Then, there's the idea of giving players a decision in how they want to play the game. For every game mode in SOCOM 4, you can play with either the standard set of features or by using the Classic game mode variant. Classic takes you back to the early 2000s by removing some of those aforementioned additions, like regenerating health and snap cover. What you've got instead is a game with no respawns, a finite health bar, and a palpable tension as your number of teammates dwindles down to nothing. When looking for a match online, you've got the choice to look for Classic matches or you can look for standard matches. Your call.

I bet they end up adding it down the road, some time after the game release. The people over at the Socom forums are pissed off right now. I can't believe they left that mode out.

It sucks that they are sticking with the 32 man maps. 8 v 8 was perfect.

                        Community Day Impressions:

                        kingGILLEY

                        The Good:
                        -Weapon Accuracy
                        -Hit detection
                        -Number of hits to kill
-Classic options are what we want and we can live there.
                        -Graphics (AWESOME)
                        -Abandoned

                        The Bad:
-Grenade throwing (no arc, doesnt seem to be pressure sensitive)
-Jump (goofy looking and excessive (like MAG))
-Camera is too zoomed in. It feels claustrophobic sometimes. and you lose where you are going sometimes.
-No demo mode (still one classified mode though)
Overall the game is a mixture of MAG, SOCOM, and COD. I believe it will appeal to anyone who likes one of those games. Basically no matter what type of gamer you are, you will find a home somewhere in Socom 4.

My favorite part is when I was the last guy left and I killed the last player on their team. I did it a couple times and I was shaking after, my heart was pumping, and I had to catch my breath. As soon as I felt that I knew SOCOM was back. (that was only on classic games. I did not feel that at all on the respawn.)

Basically I will say this. It is a departure from Socom. I thought it would be more like classic Socom than it is. But even though it is different, it is very good, and very addictive.
                        GaRcHoW

I got a vague Socom feel. It was there but its not as strong as I was hoping for. The camera needs pushing back. strafing speed needs to go up, the d-pad lean NEEDS to be added. The control settings need a dead zone adjustment ability. You can carry to primaries of a different class which I did like. There is a good amount of character skins to choose that look pretty cool. Abandoned looks perfect! In all honesty moving that camera back, making unzoomed shoulder fire more accurate, giving an option to completely remove OTS at the main menu, turning up the strafe speed, and adding d-pad lean will do a lot for the game, and add more of a Socom feel.
It is a good game. SP is hard. I died even on the easiest settings. MP is worthless unless you're in Classic mode. No demo mode, but it was STRONGLY suggested by EVERY one of the 18 as well as D-pad lean, pushing the screen back, and turning up overall speed plus strafing speed. The game is XP based and has a progression system, but its not intolerable and it will actually add depth to the game.

UCRR are not in, but Zipper will be monitoring what unranked custom matches among other factors such as forum polls to create User Suggested Ranked Rooms. They are calling it the perfect middle ground and I do to some extent agree.
                        PAUL-AWOL-

Pistols are gone from Socom ???? I don't agree with this at all, your secondary weapon can be what ever is available for you to choose. You can't have two shot guns but you can have a Sniper rifle with a Shotty and etc. I will miss pistols only, that is Socom and another feature is lost.
The game over all looked and felt like MAG with a SOCOM name. The camera view was very close and needed to be zoomed out, it was very hard to L1 zoom and not have over half your head in the screen.

If you are looking for a game that resembles Socom 1, 2, 3, CA or Confrontation you won’t find it in Socom 4 and that’s not my opinion it’s a fact. Now that doesn't mean that Socom 4 isn’t a good game or isn’t true to the Socom style of play, in fact the tactical objective based nature of Socom is there and it’s alive and well. Also the maps are very well designed and they have that Zipper feel and quality. The best way I can describe MP is a MAG feel in a third person view.
                        GrIzDaKiLl3R's

Ok SOCOM 4 is a totally new experience with out a doubt. Not like any other SOCOMs at all. As of right now there are NO game modes returning from passed SOCOMs besides suppression. Not even Demo. now we argued with them about it and hopefully we will prevail.

Anyways, it is very very similar to MAG. I say it is MAG in third person. Many others agree with me.

Like others have said it seems like they are going in the complete wrong direction here. I really don't think a game like SOCOM is a system seller and it looks like Sony disagrees with me. It looks like they are changing everything in the hopes of drawing in on the CoD players. That's going to fuck up the hardcore user base because a game like this, that is a complete departure from the series, is probably going to push those guys away.

Honestly the hardcore guys are not enough. Confrontation a good day had 10,000 people online. If this new direction can get 100,000, they should consider it a win.

Yeah, I guess you're right. No way they can have a viable business model just catering to the hardcore fans.

I still don't know if this is the right way to go. I mean, if you are going to go in another direction, at least offer all of the old modes for the SOCOM vets.

It seems like everyone at community day had the same complaints, which means these issues will most definitely get fixed either by release or with a patch soon after.
