I was a n00b at Socom back in Socom II and I gradually started playing with the same people (randoms) for long periods of time and banded together to make a clan. That's how it starts really. I eventually got better and was invited to better clans and had countless clan wars to make the game awesome over and over again.

Yea the game really gets fun with you play with a good group of guys, randoms gets old after awhile. But I'm waiting for the patch as well before I try and play it hardcore. We should all get together one night..no homo.

My only gripe at the moment is that they should have shoulder switching.
