gamespot game it an 8.5 Ign gave it a 7

i watched the gamespot video review and it seemed like the game was cool enough, but had to many pointless missions. Those wonderful drive for 10 minutes, do something dumb, then its over type missions. They also said there arent any side missions. Its all the main story and thats it. Like having the open world didnt really mean anything cause there wasnt anything to do in it

That's what I keep reading. What's the point of having an open world with side missions?

I sure hope they aren't holding back side missions for PAID DLC.:threaten:

the only DLC is the one that comes with the PS3 for now and the guy i watched play it thought it was gay, you just drive around and shoot people like the "rampage" mode in GTA

That is all that has been announced. I can all but guarantee there will be more DLC.

Yeah, I only got in about an hour and a half. From what I've played it's pretty damn good. City feels alive. First few missions are cool. Driving was okay, shooting seemed pretty spot on. Lots of cutscenes, like... a LOT. They kept my interest for sure and they are really well done, but that's a forewarning... LOTS of them. I had maybe 20-30 minutes of gameplay in that hour and a half.

I can definitely see what people are saying with regards to the "open world-ness", you really don't have time to explore. I was either in the car with someone, running towards a goal or receiving a phone call. It didn't really seem like there's be much time at all to explore or really do much in the open world.

I can't say for sure rent/buy, it's definitely good that's for sure. I really haven't done enough yet to clearly say "Yeah, buy this game right now" but it's from what I can tell already a really well made, fun game.

Just into Chapter 8/15.

I would have to say....a RENTAL or a buy at a cheaper price (imo $40-45). Don't get me wrong it's a good game but I see it as a one time play through. I don't see much replay because it is so linear. So far, you get 3 different sceneries (4 time eras). It ranges from several movies including

 

Saving Private Ryan, Good Fellas, and Shawshank Redemption.

Chapter 6, while different, isn't that great because you can't always hit back. There are a number of cut scenes and they are interesting but I can't find a way to skip them (in case you have to redo the missions).

I don't understand the "hate" these days for linear games. It's not like open world is better than linear, it's just a different way to play a game. You get much better stories/campaigns from linear games anyways.

damn, was hoping to get this, but i'm not so sure now, this, Black Ops, MoH, Halo Reach, its like people hating on all shooters coming out

That is true...esp. for this game. The story telling quality in this game is top notch.
