Madden Sales = Weak Game Industry?
Sales are down 8 percent year-to-date from 2009’s disappointing numbers. Even the most optimistic analysts are now saying that the best investors can hope for is a flat year.
Here's what I love reading and just facepalm every time Peter Moore spouts off Metacritic ratings
The price cuts could indicate the initial word of mouth was fair to middling. Critics have given the game fairly high marks—Metacritic.com, which compiles game review scores, gave “Madden NFL 11” a ranking of 85 out of 100. User scores on that same site, though, only rank it 5.3 out of 10.
The consumers say: "Fuck this garbage"

Earlier editions were terrible, should have been 5's and 6's, but according to places like fucking IGN it's always been an 8.
Bullshit. More gaming media resources need to blow up these bullshit reviewers.
I fucking LOL'D my ass off yesterday. Ian messaged a reviewer on GiantBomb saying "Great review, you were always one of the more fair reviewers"
I looked at the review
In terms of game modes, Madden 11 is stuffed as full as ever, to the point where it will probably take you weeks to even realize some of these features are here. Franchise mode returns in mostly the same form you've come to know it in, and the online version of it, which debuted last year, is quite an engaging experience. It's easy enough to join up with a league full of your friends, and play games with them each week. Trades, injuries, fantasy drafts, detailed statistics, all of it's there.
Detailed statistics in OF? GTFO YOU LYING CUNT. No team stats, bare bones leader boards. Garbage.Comment

Wouldn't renting still count as buys? I mean... its not like GameFly and Blockbuster didn't buy the game in order to rent it out.Comment

I think EA really needs to take a deep look into their team running madden. Numbers are dropping, and if I am correct, isn't the NFL contract almost up, meaning the door could open to others to make football games. It is these years that you want people to get so caught up in your product that they don't even consider the others when/if it comes out. It is like that for me with NHL series. I don't even look at 2k's game, as EA's game is vastly better all around.
In a way, I'm the person EA needs to sell on. I haven't bought Madden since 04 or whenever my brother got the last one. And every year I do get in the hype of the game, as I like playing with people here, but as soon as you start hearing all the shit that is going on in the game, I just remind myself that NHL is a month away and pass on Madden every year. I'm the gamer they want into their market. They have all the people here who buy madden every day, and sorry to say to them, getting a game done quicker is not something myself as a casual gamer cares about. I'll spend an hour playing a game if the game is worth playing. All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

I can't remember the last time I had this much fun playing Madden, but I think those sales numbers are a good thing.
Maybe the NFL will reconsider exclusive licensing, and maybe it will force EA to consider rebuilding from scratch (though I have my doubts about the latter). My Twitch video link: http://www.twitch.tv/dave374000

They are to late into the next gen to rebuild fom scratch. Though honestly, I don't see the "next gen" after this one being that far advanced, so they can get a good start. All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
