and besides that, okay, the idea that you consider Twilight Princess, Vice City, RDR and Dead Space to be GOOD video game stories just makes me more confused.

I guess those games are okay story wise, but I wouldn't put any of them as leaps and bounds above Gears. To each their own though. Not really understanding how those are your bases for calling Gears "shit".

Im still perplexed that some1 thinks gears 3 is good story telling, we were actually talking about this while going through campaign, we kinda thought you were joking...

these characters are 1 dimensional, and the story line developments feel like theyre just throwing shit on the wall

for the sake of throwing shit on the wall. Dramatic moments are unintentionally hilarious like the incident in the stadium. the michael Bay reference comes from the fact that michael Bay movies are big stupid fun, much like the Gears franchise. This Story is an afterthought, opening chapters; why should we care about Prescott? 3 games in, OH marcus has Daddy issues. Wait, which carmine is this?

The story doesnt draw you in, I dont care what happens to Marcus fenix, if a carmine dies another one takes his place without incident. Im not here for story, and gears doesnt deliver much of one.

I am enjoying the Gears 3 story. Then again, I'm a Gears nut and I have read all the books, so that may be the reason. There are definite plot holes if you only play the games that are filled in through the books...

I feel the need to defend Red Dead Redemption. Its one of the best games and best stories ever. Not to mention the excellent ending.

Eh, it's got a great ending, and the game itself is great. But overall the storytelling is WILDLY inconsistent. You play a guy trying to redeem himself for the bad things that he's done, and he constantly talks about regretting killing and having a purpose, etc...yet he murders any and everything in his path without a second thought. It's really the downfall of Rockstar storytelling in general. GTAish games give you that open world that allow you to be a monster but try to allow you to do so within the context of a story that tries to paint your character as somewhat good/redeemable.

I don't know what to tell you, other than you're kind of being a douche trying to convince ME how I feel about the game. In this in particular, the reason that I feel like they've finally learned how to tell a story is that the campaign itself is actually engaging me. The first two acts really sucked me into the world and actually made me like the characters. I'm sorry it didn't do that for you, but arguing about it and using examples like a Zelda game and RDR isn't going to give me the impression that you know better than I do, nor is it going to make me say to myself "he's right, I no longer enjoy the storytelling of this campaign".

I just want to make it clear that Gears 3 is an excellent game and the most fun ive ever had in a 4 player co-op. While the story isnt much to tlk about; unless asked to tlk about it; Gears 3 is one of the Best gameplay experiences of the year, IMO
