I doubt it because it isn't even the same situation. I wouldn't call DA2 a money grab, I would call it more a desperation act. It's easy for DA1 fans to think that DA1 was so super popular, but the fact was it was a really clunky XBox game and I think DA2 was their attempt to get that Xbox crowd. They just rushed it, hence the corner cutting. The story, characters, and even the combat to a degree was all there, it just needed another 6 months to a year.

I certainly hope that it isn't the case to that extent, but it certainly seems that mass marketability played a significant role in the creation of the game.
I don't know if an online pass has been announced for the co-op mode yet or not, but I expect that and wouldn't be bothered by it or anything.Comment

Wanting a game to sell or making it massively marketable isn't a negative I think. A lot of this has seemed like an overreaction to me. Just wait and see what we get and go from there. They made 1 very good game (ME1) and 1 all time great game (ME2)...let's not just assume that they're going to throw it all away. Just because they want to make it accessible means nothing at this point until we understand the context.Comment

You are very probably right, and I am most definitely overreacting. Just because a game is not being created and marketed exactly to my specific outrageous expectations does not mean it will not be excellent, and hopefully Bioware's nearly flawless pedigree will prove that.Comment

I can't believe that nerd went on a huge rant about including Jessica Chobot as a guest voice. Who gives a fuck?
All of this nerd rage about this game is making me anti-nerd-rage in a huge way and I'll usually hear out the nerd rage before hating on it. The game hasn't even come out yet and I all hear is "this game is going to suck because of EA". True, EA sucks hard but ME1 and ME2 were both awesome. Fucking A. Let the game get released, and if it's deserved, shit all over it. By all means. These nerd bloggers need to give it a rest and get a life.Comment

But back to this game. Has their been any word of the entire trilogy being release on 360? I'm thinking that if I want to get into these game I'd rather just wait to get the full experience.Comment

But to answer your question, no plans have been made for a boxed trilogy yet.Comment

I just don't entirely believe that logic because we're talking about a developer with pedigree, and fans who would wait (shit, they waited for Dragon Age as the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate for YEARS). I just feel like there is more to that story than a cash grab, if only because I don't think rushing a game out really ever works as a cash grab. In most cases the situation plays out just like it did for DA2 (vehement dislike and taking the franchise from liked to hated).Comment

The whole trilogy is on 360 but I assume you mean the trilogy as some sort of boxed set? If they do, I would imagine it'd be long after the fact. Just comparing it to the movie industry, the boxed trilogy doesn't come out right after the third one drops.

Was the first game even that much of a success?

Yeah, but they weren't partnered with EA back in the Baldur's Gate days. All of the "experts" have said that EA wanted DA2 out when it released so that they could capatilize on all the fans that were still fresh off of all the DA:O add-ons/expansions. So they rushed it to market. Bioware will never say so but I'm guessing they wanted another 6 months to a year like you said. But they had the EA suits breathing down their necks and ultimately EA amkes the release date decisions.
I can see how the meeting went...
EA: "Hey doctors, how's DA2 coming along? We need to get that shit out there. The hype for the series is at an all time high."
Bioware: "We still have a good deal to do. We need to flesh out the quests because most of the ones in the game now are just boring fetch shit. And the dungeons all look the same. They are just placeholders now."
EA: "Fuck it. Ship that shit!"

It is? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platinum_Hits
And what does that even mean anyway? Final Fantasy XIII and MLB 2k9 were also Platinum Hits. Has MS even ever specifically said what makes something qualify as a Platinum Hit?Comment

Yeah, that's what I meant. Like the whole trilogy in one box. Although I'm guessing that shit would be like six discs. Ha.

EDIT -- Also, Twigg, I don't know how many times I can tell you that you need to just skip the first one. The aiming is based on dice rolls and, for the most part, pretty much shit. The game does a good job after a while at making you forget that, but early on it is something that a person like you would hate.Comment

Whereas Playstation Greatest Hits have to be on the market for ten months sell 500k copies.Comment

I guess I just need to pick up 2 on PS3 then since it has some of the DLC already. What content is it missing?Comment

High sales within 9 months of the game's release date.
FF-XII I get since it was hyped for being multiplatform on next gen consoles...
And wasn't 2K9 one of the first of the 2K Baseball series to offer a Million if you pitched a perfect game? That's a sales booster for sure.
EDIT: Beat'd.Comment
