I'm playing as a Nord and I just use weapons. Level 9 at the moment.
Haven't had any random dragon encounters yet. Learned a total of 4 shouts though, just need some souls. I had an Assassin from the Dark Brotherhood try and kill me. He was super fast and I could barely see him because it was night, managed to kill him though. Still don't know who ordered the hit. I also saw a werewolve in action, holy shit is all I will say.
I've been a werewolf in action. It's saved my ass on more than one occasion. Also the Ice Trolls are easily the toughest thing I've faced yet, the Bosmer power to control animals really comes in handy if I feel like saying F-it and bailing. Next time I see one it's gonna be Ice Troll vs Werewolf though.

Loving werewolf form as well. Working on joining both the Companions and Stormcloaks now.
I can become a werewolf whenever I want at this point. Quick question:
Do you control when you turn into it or is it random?
You control it. It's one of the R2 powers like the shouts or special racial abilities. And you can only transform once a day. Feed on people while in the form to prolong it/heal yourself. Only downside is you no longer get the Well-Rested benefits. Didn't effect me much though seeing as how I barely sleep in the game anyways.
I am new to the game so sorry for the newbness, but why would I join a the Companions or Stormcloaks? I have met both of them and was like what is the point in joining?
Also Ice trolls do blow. If I wasn't so good at destruction spells I would die a lot more because of those fucks. I don't think it is possible early on to just beat it with just handed weapons.

It's a major side quest line (the guilds) that can provide many XP, gold and loot.....if it's anything like they were in Oblivion.
I'm just going to do the mage college with my wizard and save the companions for my warrior.

Companions are just a guild. You'll get access to some weapons and side quests. Good experience if you are a warrior type character. Stormcloaks and Imperials are two sides of a civil war. You can choose which side to support. I haven't chosen yet though so I'm not even sure what you'll do for them.
so whats the deal with the imperials and stormcloak, can anyone clarify which side is better to join? Also, i just killed my first dragon, this game is blowing my high expectations out of the water
Stormcloaks are the rebels and Imperials fight for the Empire... or what's left of it. I haven't had to choose a side yet. Been doing thieves guild quests and the main story. Also was invited into The Dark Brotherhood, all I have to say is DAAAMN! The initiation was way cooler than in Oblivion.
