You think I know why I can't fucking beat dragons?

I use arrows, two handed weapons, one handed, shouts, fire. Nothing.

      What lvl are you?

I thought dragons were pretty easy to kill honestly. Do you have a follower? Try getting a follower and arming them with a good bow and good arrows, to do some extra damage.

Do you have the conjure flame atochran? You can get one in winterhold, and they throw fire balls at dragons for you continuously, for a little extra damage.

When in air, wait for it to land on a building or hover and stay far enough away that it won't target you much.

When the dragon lands on the ground, stay away and let your minions get close and do the dirty work while you range it...if you have to get close try to stay on it's side/behind it but watch out for the tail.

When you get better armor and weapons, you can wait for it to land and beat the shit out of it, just avoid the head and tail.

      that's what I do.

All good tips, and don't forget to keep yourself stacked with health potions and resistence potions. the latter is key. grab yourself 50% frost resist and laugh at a frost dragon while you cut its fucking face off. don't forget to enchant like a motherfucker too. elemental resist + a potion = sabercats are way harder than dragons.

I will agree though, there are times in the game where your armor and items arent nearly as powerful as your enemies. these are the times you take the opportunity to craft or gather the gold to buy better shit. this is the game telling you "cool you're not ready, now use any one of the dozen or so options at your disposal to empowere yourself"

And these are all good tips, to you sir.

Another good tip I think is get yourself a bow with a nice damage boost. I always carry a bow with +26 fire damage on it, and I'm working on getting the double enchanting perk so I can stack another +26 frost damage on top of that. My Legendary Daedra Bow = 61 damage + 26 fire + 26 frost = 113 damage, plus 20 for Ebony arrows = 133 damage!!!

I read somewhere somebody was getting 141 damage out of their bow&arrows.

I think you can boost enchanting+alchemy together. You can enchant an item to give you a percentage boost to Alchemy potions, then make a potion to give you a percentage boost to enchantments, then go back give yourself a higher alchemy percentage while wearing the enchanted item...then go back and give yourself a higher percentage boost with a new potion...so on an so forth until you get a super high enchantment boost, and also you can make gear to give you a higher smithing boost as well!!!

Work on Smithing/Enchanting/Alchemy and you'll be able to make the best gear ever!

I know, it's a lot to take in, but it all works well together.

The short answer is boost something, get better, get more...that's all there is to it. If you want to dish out more damage, just get better and more. better and more. perks perks perks, gear gear gear, it will all fall into place.

Did you check what difficulty you're on?

I'm at level 41, and the only thing about dragons that I've found to be challenging thus far regardless of level is that I'm a melee character that doesn't even carry a ranged weapon, so I'm stuck putzing around until the fucker decides to land. The Elder and Ancient dragons seem less inclined to do so or something.

So after rage-quitting due to the bugged door last night, I started a new game as a Redguard named Soap (was playing WM3 earlier...). Almost went with a Kajit named Cuddles but being a cat-man seems a bit weird to me. Decided to be a sneaky sniping archery basterd. Only thing I don't like is that I haven't looked to find what is good for Light Armour yet - I usually prefer heavy armour as I'm doing more tanking than ranged attacks. Managed to get my Sneak up to 30 already just by following around the guards on the road to Whiterun. This seems like its gonna be fun.

Think I'll avoid teh Bard's college quest, just in case...

My axe does double damage from it's original 90, so 180, plus another 30% from an amulet, so my axe is doing 234 damage if that's how the game calculates it.

I'm thinking of upping it myself from Adept. I hit a few patches that were tough (especially mages) earlier on, but now my stats are such that if I have my shield up I barely take any damage at all (I stood right in front of an Ancient dragon with my Dragonbone shield up as he breathed a slew of fire on me and the only damage I took was after the fact from being on fire and it was minimal).

I just don't always care for the difficulty increases in these games because it's not harder AI, it's just more hit points and more damage done. ME2 Insanity run killed that sort of thing for me.

I don't yet...on my way for it now for basically that reason. The worst is when they attack Winterhold (I think -- the town with the College), because they NEVER LAND ON THE FUCKING GROUND. I have to run up to the college itself where they usually land in the courtyard.

Do the missions for the museum in Dawnstar. You'll run into a few Daedra before you finish.
