it difference is noticeable and alot better this year. I am excited about the new lighting they talked about and the weather stuff is awesome. adding balks is huge for online play
we havnt had a good league since the 1st season we did. the format since then has sucked and created to many problems. switching to more players and more games was a big mistake. everyone is all gung ho at the start then after a couple weeks u are having to replace half the players. i didnt care for the level last year online....i know not many people felt the same way. i just wish we had experimented with the level before jumping in head first. We got lucky in season 1 and the level worked out great but last year didnt feel right and seemed to be all about who had the best teams rather than who actually played the best. then the forum shit didnt help at all.
a 22 game schedule with 16 owners was perfect. if sonys online league work and they fix all the OBVIOUS things then u might be able to run a full leagueComment

The Sony leagues were pretty good by the end of the year. The only issue, and its a big one, was the leagues would sometimes randomly freeze up. And disconnections of any sort were simply tossed out and not counted. Not a problem if you were playing guys you know, though.
The other advantage to sony leagues were the bells and whistles like Opening Day, trades, injuries, free agents, etc.Comment

say what u want, but the 22 game league we did was the only one that finished. everyone talks a good game when it comes to an expanded league but then after a few weeks they move on to another game.....its just the reality.
btw, i am talking about the houtz league that you are praising...nothing against him and it wasnt his fault. But on vsn u can not have a full league of players. this is not a gaming siteComment

-houtz vanished
-site drama forced us to switch sites 3 times
Despite momentum being killed everytime we switched sites, and a bunch of guys dropping (and I remember each and every person who dropped, and won't forget if we start something back up), we still nearly finished before everyone finally gave up.
Had nothing to do with the length of the season. Things were rolling and on fire until the site drama.
I have a long memory of everything that went down, and will have plenty of advice for whoever tries to put something together for '11.Comment

whoa whoa, houtz ran a league?
I think between the guys that have been around playing MLB the past couple years, we know what will work in league and what it takes for it to not only run well but finish.
once we get a final idea of how online leagues will work, then a decision can be made whether it's best or if LD is still the best way to go. at that point, (which really isn't for a long while) you can start to hammer out the specifics.
it's really hard to speculate on what's best when we don't know what the game offers in detail. so when it comes to league size it's totally up in the air.
12-16 worked well, 30 was a bit mental and failed, although I didn't think it went THAT poorly and it could have finished under the right circumstances. however, with competitive CPU teams being in the mix that opens up new viewpoints on the subject. really the amount of human/cpu owners is irrelevant now, hard deadlines and simmed games keep the committed owners happy and playing which is all that matters. it's not hard to keep on top of those things, i mastered this with Turducken, it's what made that league flow as well as it did.
nobody has to wait, league always progresses, results always happen. provided the game is what this first look suggests, then this can be how the league is and the concerns around total human owners becomes moot.
just my take on it, but again it's pretty early to really say anything.Comment

They made great improvements on the online leagues over the course of the year. Only issues by the end were frozen leagues that couldnt advance. Sometimes they were able to fix it, other times not.Comment

W2B... we know who will and won't stick around, shit I was horrible at the game and still enjoy it up to this day (played yesterday for a while)I say 12 team MAX for a league. After the first season is complete than take on the other guys that you aren't so sure about if they are still playing.
Also I'd really like to see an actual online franchise type deal instead of just a play games league. That will keep people around the idea of continuing to make their team better etc, and then even if a few drop out it wouldn't completely cripple the league, there would still be plenty to do.
I like it.Comment
