I think it was the Game Informer article that mentioned they had different variants of the Frostbite 2.0 engine that were optimized for the PC and consoles.

I'd imagine that's the case since the PC engine can probably handle more. DICE seems very loyal to their PC fanbase.

And that was what the article said was their exact reasoning. Of course they also said that the console versions won't be slouches by any means.
