Link: Going Back to Karkand #1: Your chance to relive the greatest Battlefield maps ever
Anyone who preorders Battlefield 3 will receive our first themed expansion pack at no extra charge. When Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus got the assignment to lead the expansion pack, his thoughts immediately went to the four most played and loved maps in the history of Battlefield: Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula. Combined, these four maps have been played for an incredible 25,000 man years! This is no simple map pack. Back to Karkand will also include iconic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles to bring back to the base game, new unlocks and persistence, and more content that we will talk about later.Come back next week for more in-depth details on Back to Karkand. An early piece of concept art for the Frostbite 2 reimagining of a true classic. Meant to represent lighting and color palette only. Actual map layout will be very similar to the original.Comment

Suppose it comes down to whether or not you dug the VIP program EA and DICE ran.
Free shit (maps and map variants, a gun you normally had to level up to get in BC2) is always a good thing.
In my personal case, since I don't usually buy more than one game at a time, I'm cool with the Return to Karkand adding onto what should be a great title.Comment

Honestly, BF is one of those games I really have no issue shilling out a little extra money for to get extra maps because you know you are easily getting your moneys worth in this game and hours and hours of excitment. And it all comes from BF being a 'different' type of FPS IMO.
I was thinking of this while reading the MW3 shit, and I want to chirp it bad, but I'll post in the better game thread. I look at MW3 or just the MW series and all the problems you hear about in that game just do not show up in BF ever. Here is just some of them I thought of.
Campers
From my BF2 days there was no camping at all. Sure some guys may lurke around the same place, but with a Commander ready to blow his ass up, and heli's and planes ready to drop the bomb, you generally never just stood around in BF2. If you did, you died. Even as a sniper, which what I played a lot of, you had to shoot and move because they would figure out where you were.
Plus with the map size being so huge, the greatest part of the game play was that battles happened in different sections of the map and didn't just happen in one area. Take Karkand as an example. Start of the map started always at the hill ridge and hotel. Then could move up to the hillside lookout place, then normally to train tracks and back again. This is why Capture the Flag is such a great way to play as it moves the gameplay around. This is why I think MW series fails. There is nothing different between MW and say Counter Strike Source. Smallish maps, "rounds" and basically a 'kill and wait' game. BF, you get killed, you wait 15 seconds....the LONGEST 15 seconds of your life, and then you get your ass back into that battle.
Speed of the Game
I have no issue with the speed of BF and all this crying about the speed being to slow is from a bunch of ADHD kids, who most likely used their sprint up and are still holding it down all map. When you consider tanks and jeeps are in the game, you can't have people running faster then them. Plus I honestly can NEVER remember anyone saying "this game is to slow." Because as the point I made before, you don't feel the "slowness" because you are always playing the game. You die, you get right back into it.
Perks and All that BS
I never liked any of the perk stuff in any FPS game. Give me my guns and weapons and lets get going. Forget all this extra ammo, faster speed, slight of hand, better aiming bullshit. You should get a better gun and that is all and learn to play with it. I think I used the SCAR most of the time as a C4 man, and of course the sniper rifle I would switch between depending on what the situation and map called for. I didn't need perks to make me better, I just played the game and learned the gun.
I really hope people here are getting this for the PC and dont just settle for the xbox/ps3 game. All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
"rammer" and "cummings"
The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.Comment

Just pre-order is at lamestop or whatever. Who really cares where you get it. I'd just rather save the $30.All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

And I'm getting it for a console because I don't have a rig that could play BF3 the way I want it to play.Comment

Plus for Battlefield, most of my friends are on the 360, so that is where I'll be playing.Comment

If PSN was up right now we would probably still be playing BC2 on PS3. As it is the only person I know from here that still plays on 360 consistently is BrntO.Comment
