    NHL 12

Might as well get this thread going.

Just seen the tweet from the EA Sports twitter saying the first NHL 12 screenshot will be released soon as well as more info about the game coming out near the end of the month.

Can't wait to make an online BAP, put points into speed for no reason and try and get my legend card.

Never done this before, going to be awesome.

What do you mean? I haven't played the NHL series since NHL 09.

There's no real physics in the game. The puck is moved by "under the hood" dice rolls that determine one of a few different outcomes every time it's played.

It makes for a boring, repetitive and predictive game where players will resort to the same tactics because the same outcomes are expected. This is not reality.

2K managed to get the puck right 7 years ago (not much else though unfortunately), why can't EA?

It's funny to watch NHLers in real life get chances in close and fail to get the puck above the outstretched pad of the goalie...but in EA's NHL, 100% of the time you can crossbar it from inside the crease.

Just one of the many issues this game has. With NHL 09 when they dropped online BAP and combined with the stick skill, EA got a huge ego over this title thinking they had it in the bag. Since then, they haven't added a lick of quality to the gameplay and the offline franchise mode remains bugged and broken.

Sure there is. The hitting physics (Although limited since its the first year) is done quite well now and you don't see little st. louis knocking over chara's ect. The puck has changed quite a bit since 09 but I still hate when it bounces around like a retard when it's dumped it. This is something that will probably be introduced this year. Although comparing from 09 or even 08 the way the puck plays now is 10X better.

Welcome to hockey. Well in some sense. I understand where you're coming from since we all know which goals are going to have the best chance of scoring but in some modes (like EASHL) i think most of the silly goals come from the goalie being a really bad rating and overall a dumbass. In other modes like 1v1 I rarely see a person do the same thing all the time (unlike NHL 09) but I have found while I've moved up in the ranks that players do have similar tendancies. Things like the cross crease, slot goals and coming out of the corner top cheese things can be avoided if you play defense properly. I will admit I am still pretty annoyed with breakaways having a 90% chance of scoring at this point though.

Offline I have do have gripes about since the reptitiveness is truely annoying. I have gave up playing my be a gm games because of this and have stuck to online this year.

Offline franchise does still need some work in the cpu logic department but I found especially this year the rookies turning into 90s after 3 years has been fixed and you don't see as many turning into superstars. The addition of rfa's and a proper minor system this year really helped for free agency since now you will see proper free agents on the list and not 21 year 87OVR with a B in potential sitting there for years because no one can affoard him. I have found getting a rfa to be a little hard to do but it is doable if you load the contract up with a ton of money and are willing to part with the picks.

I really liked be a gm this year. Too bad I couldn't really play it.

The whole not a lick of gameplay is nonsense. Boardplay, Proper face offs, broken sticks (I fuckin hate this though but it's realism I suppose), the hustle button, goalies acting like goalies (they still suck though imo, but much improved from 09), more deking animations, one timers that work properly, a better system for tip in goals, disallowed goals, gameplay has slowed down a lot to a proper level, hitting has drastically changed, better crowd animations (they even have towels in the playoffs! lol) and the arena's are all what they should be and on and on and on. There's also the bloody passing. Which if I remember correctly you were going nuts over.

I'm not going to sit here and say its 100% perfect. We all know the problems but like any sports game you kinda expect them. All I know is this is either the best or second best EA sports title and it doesn't have retarded flaws in it like madden.

I think your preference of Hockey to Football makes you ignorant to the minimal NHL improvement and to be more forgiving for it's faults, but I can't prove it so I digress.

The puck is still too controlled for my liking, I'm not wrong in stating "it's a dice roll controlled with limited possibility" just because you enjoy the improvements of what they are doing, in the end it's still not "free to do whatever" like a real puck, or 2K's puck was.

EA has admitted it's IMPOSSIBLE to shoot wide on purpose, it's all dice roll controlled. So really when you "aim" you're aiming at pretty large potential areas and have less user control than most people realize...and the player ratings determine what exactly happens. I want to play a game where I'm in more control of what's going on. If I'm aiming 5 feet wide, the puck should go 5 feet wide. Anyways...

In my view, it doesn't matter what they add to offline franchise with the outstanding issues still being present. It ruins the mode to me. As you admitted, the gameplay is stale as hell vs the CPU and the flaws I hinted at do exist. We didn't even touch on the hilarity of simulation stats....

Simply put, the game needs much more than you're willing to admit. Sure it's better than Madden, but it's still very much overrated for what it's accomplished in the past 2 cycles.

What 9-3 games with 7 goals in the last 5mins isn't real?

You'd think they'd have caught that with the demo, that did the first two period sims of the game 7 SCF.

Grabovski wins the Hart like every year too. ffs.
