The memory cards are complete horseshit. Not to mention why the fuck haven't they released larger ones at this point?

My take on the memory card situation is that sony built a handheld console that cost more than 250 bucks. In order to recoup some dough they over charged for the memory cards. The dude in charge of pricing was like yeah that's a great idea. People pay 200 premiums to get an iphone with 64 GB. We can get away with it. The problem with that is this is not an iPhone and with an iPhone there is no choice. Consumers perception of external memory is different from there perception of internal memory. The average consumer does not think of this tech to be iphone level. But instead compares it to a camera where the memory cards are dirt cheap. Sony has an images marketing problem.

With that said I'm about to go all in and just cop the 64 GB card. Wish there was 128 GB card but I work with what I have. I plan to buy one physical game to keep in the card slot at all times. Everything else is going to be digital.

I wouldn't doubt for a second that they tried to make up some of the cost with proprietary memory cards, but I don't get anything beyond that. I don't think that the average iPhone user was the group the Vita was targeted toward, and I DEFINITELY don't think that the Vita was directed at anyone that might mistake it for a camera. A lot of people would argue that the Vita wasn't pitched to anyone outside of the most hardcore of gamers, outside of Japan (and they managed to even lose that by losing Monster Hunter).

The PSP was an awesome and flawed system. It seems like the Vita is more awesome, but also still as flawed in a lot of ways. The fact that they hamstrung themselves to overpriced memory cards has really been a mess for them. They are SO digital, but their refusal to allow people to have viable digital storing options, has people either not using the thing, or not buying it. It's a shame, I'd like one, but fuck those prices.

Lol. The camera part might have been a poor example. But that's how we view external memory. You are right that the system was not really marketed at anyone outside of hard core gamers who happened to stay up to watch its announcement late one night a couple of years ago. I think they may just go after ps4 users now and market it as a companion device.

Honestly, that might be their best bet, particularly with all of the indie shit that Sony has been locking down. Rogue Legacy on your PS4 and your Vita would be sweet.

I guess the other kind of sad part is, they don't need to lower their card prices because they know they got who they are going to have gotten. It makes it a bummer for new buyers, I'd think. But whatever. Crossplay is still one of the coolest concepts of this generation, IMO. Maybe they figured that they'd solve the rest of that shit later.

Yeah cross play and remote play are both cool features. My younger brother just bought a PS4 and Vita borderlands 2 bundle for 560 bucks. So I think that's what they are going to do.

Dragon's Crown went down in price ($20) at GS, so I thought it was at the price point for me. I did buy it used because I didn't want to be stuck with it, should I not like it or frame rate becomes too big of a negative. I'm guessing it will be part of PS+ in the future but (again), I don't want to have to use memory space for it.

Speaking of cross play and cross buy, that game is the antithesis of both of those features. What a lame piece of shit. Two identical games on two similar platforms, both FULL PRICE and They SHARE a trophy list. Complete bullshit.

I thought cross buy entitled one to play the game on both systems for one price.

It is. But Dragon's Crown went the route of charging you twice AND sharing one trophy list. But you could transfer saves from one version to the other. Complete crap.
If I like a game so much I'm willing to buy it twice, at least give me the ability to unlock more trophies. That's pretty much the main reason I never bought Borderlands 2 for for Vita. And I love that series.

You mean for July? No clue. They don't usually announce that stuff until a few days before the new month.

Sony is still supporting the Vita. Update 3.30 is supposed to go live later today-

PS Vita Themes Tomorrow with System Software Update 3.30

Hi everyone! Last month, we announced that Themes are coming to PS Vita and PS4. If you’re a PS Vita owner, the wait is almost over! Later tonight, PS Vita system software update v3.30 will be available to download, enabling you to personalize your PS Vita’s Start and Home screens, system application icons, and the system’s background music.

Starting tomorrow, non-game Themes including Crystal, Four Seasons, and Stitching will be available to purchase and download from PlayStation Store on PS Vita. Themes from fan-favorite PlayStation Vita games, like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Tearaway, and Freedom Wars are all coming soon. You’ll be able to manage downloaded themes through the PS Vita system’s Settings app. Check out these bad boys in action:

People who purchased Vita's prior to June 1, 2012 are going to be eligible for a $50 PSN credit or a $25 cash rebate because of claims Sony misrepresented the device to consumers in its advertising.

Sony Agrees To Pay Up To $50 Per Customer Over Misleading Vita Advertisements
by Mike Futter on November 25, 2014 at 12:39 PM

In the early days of the PlayStation Vita, Sony made a number of claims about the system’s features. One of those was the ability to move seamlessly between the PlayStation 3 and the handheld. As history tells us, the mechanics were a bit more complex.

As we know now, the feature wasn’t available on every PlayStation 3 game and use of cross-save often required the purchase of two versions. In the case of titles like MLB ’12 The Show, the process wasn’t instantaneous, requiring completion of a full game on the PS3 in order to transfer to the Vita.

Sony also came under fire for alleging that Killzone 3 was playable via the Vita’s remote play feature. That title was never supported.

The FTC charged Sony with misleading customers over its claims. Furthermore, the FTC found that Sony’s assertions that depictions of playing with 3G were not true, as the system does only supports remote play via WiFi.

The settlement calls for a $25 cash refund or $50 merchandise voucher for anyone who purchased a Vita prior to June 1, 2012. Sony will be emailing eligible users after the settlement is finalized following the comment period (ending December 29).
