Borderlands
Platforms: PS3/Xbox 360/PC and Mac
Ain’t no rest for the wicked. Good opening song for this game only cause I’m a Cage the Elephant fan. Anyway I have a thing for sandbox games and this was probably one of the best of this current console generation. Admittedly this game is not for everyone so if you weren’t a fan please do not continue.
Borderlands takes place on the baron wasteland planet known as Pandora. You have to choose one of four playable characters all with different strengths. I was partial to Brick because I like the in your face fighting style this brute offers. Of course I didn’t keep Brick as his name, I changed it to Shrek… don’t ask. The thing about Borderland’s that appeals to me and many gamers alike is the fantastic art style. It’s a beautiful game with a 3-D cell shaded feel to it. Characters look great and the atmosphere and setting are grand and beautiful. Other than graphics and the land you play in the gameplay is top notch. It has like Fallout feel to it with more of a comedic approach. Ridiculous enemies who can be challenging at times make the game feel like you just can’t run through it balls to the wall. Shooting is tight and melee is very well executed but there is a lingering problem as you get later in the game. The enemies are somewhat predictable if you study their habits earlier in the game. Instead of getting harder they pretty much stay at the same level so as the game wears on you feel like some of the challenge has diminished. Another gripe I had with the game is the story feels boring, confusing and predictable. Borderlands is a great game but the story really is what is hurting this game from being higher on my list. Sure as the game begins you have a feeling of anticipation to uncover more but as it goes on you realize how thin it really is. It’s like watching a cookie cutter romance movie. I’m not comparing Borderlands to “The Notebook” I’m just saying you kind of know what’s gonna happen as the game continues.
Even with all the negative things about the game, Borderlands really executes the RPG-First Person Shooter element almost as well as Fallout 3. If you’ve never played it before I recommend you try it out before Borderlands 2 drops.

but never was i happier than when Stealth and I got in the mob. We got like 2 questions right and some fucking question about Folgers came up and we both got it wrong.
