I really liked GTA III. I wasn't all that good at it, but I had fun just driving around, sniping people, finding the hidden packages, etc.
My one complaint about the game is the missions were pretty monotonous. I remember they had one mission where you had to kill a mob boss. That was all the instruction you were given, and it was left up to you how to kill the mob boss AND get away alive. One time I sniped him from a nearby building, another time I just ran over everyone with a bus. It was neat.
But most of the missions were too detailed. "Go to this building, get this car, pick up this gun from this guy, shoot this other guy". I kind of lost interest after I got into the 2nd section of the city.
Thats my one complaint. The environment itself was free-flowing, but the missions were too stifling.
