I wonder how much pressure EA put on Maxis to do that. Because that truly is a idiotic move.

I had this problem too, to fix it you gotta go into Options and find the fucking Mini-Tutorial Pop Up shits and reset them THEN restart the game. I literally spend 45 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong.

I just waited patiently for a couple minutes and it started.

Been playing for a while now...no problems finally.

Much easier to start than Sim City 4...making money right away.

            thoughts on the game....

-It's quite fun for the most part
-It's not trying to be like the old SC games, clearly. This is obvious in the "reboot" of the franchise rather than it being SimCity 5.
-Yes the maps need to be bigger. Seems like you will be unable to surpass...200K? 250K? Which doesn't even classify you as a City IIRC.
-Interface is fairly excellent and straightforward.
-Requires excellent planning to avoid wasting space.
-The zoning complaints I find to be meh, it's different, so learn it instead of crying "it's not the same thing for the 5th game in a row and im confused ". It shows you the whole size of the lot and when the lot grows into higher wealth it utilizes more of the space.
-Haven't tried MP, it's opening day, most games go through the shits like this so whatever. Should be fun to play with other people.
-The always online bullshit is comedy.
-Terraform should have been available for sandbox, I like the idea of having preset maps to work with. Just make them fucking bigger.
-Making money doesn't seem to be very hard.

If you want it to be the previous SC franchise, don't bother, it isn't that and doesn't want to be. It's different, it's a new take on SC, but has some issues to overcome starting with fucking map size. In the end, still fun to play, but it's longevity is hampered by the sizes of maps. You could really seemingly build up a city from nothing to finished in a few hours it seems.

I like the direction, I like alot of the things in the game, they just missed the mark badly on a couple areas that will hold it back. Old nerds will rage and be ignorant that again, this is a reboot, not a sequel.

God damn this game is addicting. I basically mad a grid city and it is an easy way to make money. I am going big on education as I am already ready to build a University. I forgot about that heroes and villains pack. I built that 40K mansion oor that hero dude. I have like over 200K in funds but I am moving kind of slowly and being careful with the spending. I was up to 10K an hour but then started spending. One thing I learned is dont be afraid to bulldoze and redesign areas, since you a are limited in space you cant just keep expanding out but you can expand up.

Anyway I am sure this is a game that will go on for years.

Hit a wall at 21k people, down to 17.5k now. Hmm.

I was up to 170K people, got a little hairy when a meteor strike hit. I want to play in a region with you guys, but it seems close to impossible with the servers as is.

How much further did you think you could get once at 170K?

                        Did you think 200K was do-able? 300K?

Definitely. I was at 100k when the meteor shower hit and it caused all sorts of problems. The biggest issue that happens is when you grow, you need exponentially more electricity, sewage, water, etc. A department of utilities is a must.

Cool to hear. I got my first attempt up to about 20K people, but I can definitely forsee the challenge rising once you start to get denser and grow vertically. Perhaps I've underestimated the challenge ahead, I hope so.

Will get into the VSN region tonight and claim my plot.

BTW, some people are bashing the size of the cities and I can say, it is the sole reason this game is a challenge and that is a good thing. When you are growing huge and you need sewage, power, water, more industry, specialization in general, all the space you have becomes a precious commodity. If the maps were huge, it would be no problem to play this game and grow. Instead, you have to rely on your region to provide help, use your space wisely, and plan far ahead. Overall, its a much more challenging experience because of the size of the map.

I'm seeing that a bit myself, but I do wish there were larger options available still. I don't think you'd lose challenge, perhaps gain it, if it was a 3x3 or 4x4km map. More to manage, more chaos.

I also don't like the square nature of the border, they should align with the terrain better IMO.
