There was no single player mode, it was all online.

They announced a while ago that this would happen, they just implemented game wide for everyone yesterday.

Who gives a shit either way? It's not the online play aspect that fucked this game up. In fact, does this mean they change the game in general? Because otherwise it sounds like I'll just have to create a shitload of small cities to make up my large one.

yeah i dont really see how offline is a big deal in terms of the game itself. if you dont have internet access all the time, or if you want to reload a mistake you made. but being able to play online with a group was a cool as hell idea. the game was just a turd when released.

CoT really made much of the game better, it fixed a lot of the problems. Mega Towers and Waste Reduction levels = piles and piles of money via recycling.

Offline mode is a big deal because it let's you now save as many copies as you want, let's you share the files with your friends (For example, maybe somebody comes up with a really nice starting city, and then you both get copies of it and see what you both do with it).

Modders are also having a field day from what i've seen on facebook.

In game terms, it's a big deal because a) the global market is at a fixed price, so commodities that you create will sell for way more than you are used to.

            b) when using multiple cities online, you needed someone to actually be playing their city if you wanted to get the benefits of trading with them - in other words, if you built an omega co operation and tried to export it to their city, they'd need to actually be there for the takeover to occur. If you were playing alone, you'd have to go to the city and wait for the trucks to drive over. Not the case with offline mode. Trading and selling commodities happens almost instantly because it just makes estimates. The result is wildly more profitable exports.

I am becoming better at the game at a much better pace, and yes, online mode definitely has it charms and i have a couple friends i really enjoy making cities with, but for my solo project 3 city starts or personal regions where I play with things but don't want the crutch of sandbox mode, it's a lot better now
