Even though I don't care about MMA I just realized that EA teaming up with UFC is a big deal. UFC was partnered with THQ, correct? EA had their own MMA game because UFC didn't want to partner with them. Interesting turn of events.

It was actually the other way around. They went to EA with the idea and shit and EA at the time didn't think UFC could sell a game and when THQ said yea we'll give you a shot and it was a success, EA then made there own MMA game that wasn't as good. I don't like the sport or the game, but I do remember reading that.
