What is "Vision Control"?

The last thing I wanted to touch on was the revamped vision control. The left trigger/L2 is now your backskate, all the time. For those of you that play with Auto Backskate turned off, this might not be a huge switch, but for me, it certainly was. For forwards, this means an easier way to get to your forehand for a better shot, and less shovel-shot one-timers on the backhand. I was able to pull off some neat Datsyukian moves on the breakaway/penalty shot using this feature, though not many of them went in. On the defensive end, I found it was easier to get turned around when you wanted to, although there were still a few sticky moments where my skater couldn't decide which way he wanted to turn around when I let off the trigger. It's easier to angle yourself for a good poke or stick lift, however, and checking feels better with the ability to step sideways into a guy, rather than being forced to catch him with the alligator arms a la NHL 12.
The menu screens are from PS3, so I'm assuming the gameplay is on PS3 and it looks nice.

This is making me really want to just skip the game this year. I think so far KG is the only one with something good to say about the game. I liked the skating and 'change' doesn't scare me, but it just seems like not enough of what was broken was fixed.
Plus when you add in no hockey this year, really hard to get into it, even more so with football now on 3 nights a week.All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

I said this about the skating before, that come a month or two later, no one is going to be "OMG skating is so fucking awesome". It just isn't really that ground breaking IMO. Sure it is a step forward, as it finally makes skating real (caught flat footed and all) but it is the rest of the game that needed some work. Goalies seemed like they were done really well, and AI as well. I'm still on the fence on buying this or not. It is just odd not having the NHL game the day of.All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
