Not really. But even so by hr time I do get around to those games they will all be on sale.

Plus, the jump from this gen to next does not seem to be anywhere near as significant as last gen to this one.

But hey, you guys can believe what you want.

Spec wise it is quite the significant jump. It isn't the initial jump we saw coming into the current gen, but it will be rather quickly. You keep telling yourself this though Twigg. I'll see you in September

Besides being able to say "Look at me, I have one!" Six months to a year down the road there will be better games and just more games in general, a lof of the little quirks and deficiencies will be worked out, there may be a price drop and hopefully any technial problems will be sorted out.

I learned my lesson this gen. The Xbox was a fucking disaster with all of its hardware issues. The PS3's price dropped less than a year in IIRC. Like Med said there weren't any must have games really for the first year.
This statement is the single biggest reason I'll be waiting on both. Never have truer words been spoken about console releases post Dreamcast and PS1. Ill wait. Thanks to Twiggs friendly reminder.

Also Swarley, I do think the WiiU is personally significant. I have bought every console in recent memory. DS Lite, 3DS, PSP, Vita, PS3, Wii and 360. But I held off on the WiiU and I plan on doing the same with the PS4 and 720.

            Nvidia sounds bitter

Competition drives innovation and trash talk in equal measure
Nvidia didn’t say much when the PS4 was announced, but today they came out swinging. During an interview with Maximum PC’s sister site Techrader, Nivida’s Tony Tamasi claimed that, "Compared to gaming PCs, the PS4 specs are in the neighborhood of a low-end CPU, and a low- to mid-range GPU. If the PS4 ships in December as Sony indicated, it will only offer about half the performance of a GTX680 GPU (based on GFLOPS and texture), which launched in March 2012, more than a year and a half ago."

Tamasi goes on to remind potential new console owners that these closed platforms aren’t upgradable, so you’ll be stuck with it for the next 5-10 years. "If history predicts the future, then these next-generation consoles, while being more powerful than the current ones, will very quickly end up more than an order of magnitude behind the PC."

Nvidia commands a ton of respect in the PC Gaming community, however it’s not hard to see that the company’s comments might be ever so slightly biased. AMD after all handed down a definitive spanking when it came to bidding on contracts for next generation consoles, leaving Nvidia completely shut out for the next several years. According to Tamasi however, losing the console business was intentional. "I'm sure there was a negotiation that went on," Tamasi told GameSpot, "and we came to the conclusion that we didn't want to do the business at the price those guys were willing to pay."

Some developers have actually been so bold as to claim the PS4 will outperform current PC’s due to its innovative use of fully integrated GDDR5 RAM, but only time will tell for sure. I think its safe to assume our dream machine 5 years from now will run circles around a PS4, but the real question is how it will stack up to current generation PC’s. Keep in mind the most popular GPU today as reported by Steam is an Intel integrated part, and two generation old Nvidia hardware is the runner up.

I really hope they continue their policy of allowing you to download content on two devices. I've noticed these days that the defining reason I buy games on PS3 over 360 is because I get twice the value. Being able to get ONE copy of Battlefield 3 Premium and have my wife play with us, or downloading PSN games with co-op on her console as well, or downloading DLC for games like Borderlands on both of our consoles. It's a feature that can NOT be understated for me. For instance, it looks like I'll be getting Bioshock Infinite for both. But the only reason I'm getting the 360 version (well, mostly) is because I waited too long to pre-order the Songbird Edition and the only place I could find that had them was Newegg and they only had 360 copies left. Not only does the PS3 version come with Bioshock 1 for free but I can buy the season pass for $20 on PSN and download the additional content on both my and my wife's PS3. She's a HUGE Bioshock fan so we were probably getting both versions anyway, but you better believe any DLC from here on out will only be for PS3 copies of games.

PS4 interface, user account features and social functionality detailed at GDC

Sony went into a deep dive on the PlayStation 4 during a session at the 2013 Game Developers Conference today, giving attendees details on the console's user interface, account features and social functionality.

Chris Norton, senior staff engineer from the strategy team for developer services and support at Sony Computer Entertainment America, showed off the console's interface and pointed out that it will show information about a game — including comments from other players and downloadable content — before you boot up a game.

A "digest" screen tells you what your PlayStation Network friends are playing at the moment, and you'll have the option to use their real names, which will show up in games. If you link your PSN account to your Facebook account, you'll be required to use your real name (or, presumably, whatever name is on your Facebook account). If some players haven't linked their accounts, then everyone will have to agree to use their real names in order for all players to see them.

In a game, you might see a player's real name overlaid on a part of a race course, for example. According to Norton, Sony wants to put players' real names into games wherever it makes sense. User accounts are tied to a player or controller, not a single PS4 console. And Norton said that Sony is increasing the PSN friend limit — PlayStation 3 users are limited to 100 friends.

The spectator mode enabled by the Share button on the DualShock 4 controller is built into the PS4 hardware, so developers don't need to code it for every game. Users can send comments while they're spectating on a game. And a long press on the Share button will take a screenshot. The light bar on the controller will be illuminated in a color that represents which player's controller it is: blue for player 1, red for player 2, green for player 3 and pink for player 4 — like the X, circle, triangle and square face buttons.

As for the face buttons, they'll be digital buttons instead of the analog, pressure-sensitive ones that were in the DualShock 2 and DualShock 3. According to Norton, few PS3 developers bothered to make use of the analog buttons. The DualShock 4's touchpad features a 1920x900 resolution, and it will click when you push it down.

Remote Play with the PlayStation Vita is also baked into the PS4, and both the handheld screen and TV will mirror each other, instead of the TV showing a message telling you to look at the PS Vita. Since the PS Vita doesn't have triggers like the DualShock 4, a default controller mapping for those buttons will be available, and developers can customize that layout. The new PlayStation Eye, a depth-sensing device with two cameras, plugs into the PS4 with a proprietary connector, not through USB.

Toward the end of the session, Sony demoed a PlayStation App that will be available on iOS and Android. You'll be able to browse the PlayStation Store and buy games through the app; they'll start downloading immediately, and once you get home, you'll have the ability to play the part that's already downloaded.

This system almost seems to good to be true. Microsoft is really going to have to blow me away to buy their console.

The "very large hard drive" part sounds good. I hope they're still giving you the ability to upgrade your HDD to whatever capacity you want without having to buy some proprietary bullshit.

Give us the ability to change our PSN name please. I don't even care if it's the Microsoft route and you charge us for it. I guess even if they don't, there's still kind of a workaround with this new real name stuff (I can always just input Swarley instead of my real name).
