How is it any different from now, where the 360/PS3 services are also useless to us?

I was under the understanding that PS4 was region free and XB1 was very restricted in that area but I just looked it up and apparently microsoft reversed it and XB1 is region free too. So i guess that evens out both platforms for outside US buyers.

The US based services are US only, no matter what.

PS4 will support the Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset and Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset – Elite Edition following an upcoming PS4 system software update. Existing wireless headsets from third-party companies that use a Bluetooth connection will not be supported on PS4, though most USB headsets will be supported following PS4 system software update 1.50.

So no streaming videos or music from your PC via DLNA media servers, can't store and play music files outside of their service, and they backed off their claim that you could post videos directly to YouTube (only to Facebook). Pretty disappointed with that news.

Plenty there for me to enjoy. BF4 and AC4 on launch day, and I'll get LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and Knack not too long after, maybe even 2K14. Plenty for me to enjoy until inFAMOUS comes out in February.

It's not that I don't think that there are decent games on there, just nothing I personally see the need to buy the PS4 for on launch, considering Knack's the only that I am remotely interested in that can't be found elsewhere.

And I'm pretty sure the Angry Birds Trilogy was in the same ballpark for 360. I don't know a) how people still get duped to playing games that are in many cases free; b) how they pay so much; c) how they actually sit down and play a game like that for more than a minute (I get mobiles -- consoles?); and finally d) how everyone, everywhere, ever, hasn't already played the damn games. Who is saying "I wonder what this Angry Birds stuff is about? Maybe I'll give it a shot?"

Final question: who here thinks that the day 1 patch idea is bad/will be nightmarish?

I think the day 1 patch is fine but very small amount of people will get fucked. These consoles are coming with full blown operating systems now. We all know operating systems release bug free.

I expect bugs galore but thats part of the fun of going in on launch day. I want to join in on the madness!

At least you can download it on your PC and install via USB. According to GAF, the update is already available to download.

problem with that is about 1% of the general public even know that exists let alone how to do it. I dont even know where to get the system updates from sony. Doesnt your USB drive have to be certain format and you have to structure the folders in a specific way?
