Remote Play Details. I dont think this is anything new. Basically TRY this at home...everywhere else is a crapshoot.

While the way Sony has presented Remote Play might have made you think you can play your PS4 games anywhere, anytime on your PS Vita, yesterday's robust FAQ reveals that the range of the functionality is more limited than initially thought.
As outlined in the FAQ that we reported on yesterday, Remote Play, the functionality that enables users to stream their PS4 gameplay to their PS Vita via WiFi, "will work best when the PS Vita system is located within the same WiFi network where PS4 is connected." Furthermore, Sony recommends that the PS4 itself be connected to the local area network via an Ethernet cable, that a router suitable for gaming be used and that the PS Vita be within close proximity of the WiFi access point so that the connection is free of interference.
Obviously, those recommendations suggest that while you'll be able to free up the TV and play your PS4 games on the Vita within your own home, attempting to access your games while venturing outside is going to be a game of chance.
"Remote Play may or may not work over a wide area network," reads the FAQ. "For Remote Play to function over a wide area network, a robust and stable WiFi connection and broadband Internet connection is required, and the local area network where PS4 is connected must be configured to permit the PS Vita system to access PS4."
So, how does this info impact your impression of Remote Play's usefulness? Personally, I still feel I'd utilize the functionality when other family members want to watch the main TV or I just feel like playing PS4 games that support the feature (which will be most of them) in another room, but knowing that I can't utilize Remote Play via 3G (also confirmed in the FAQ) and am limited to my home slightly dampens my enthusiasm.
What about you? Are you excited to put Remote Play to use even with these restrictions? Let me know in the comments below.

I read that it doesn't play MP3, which sucks for me. I like to put custom music in NHL & MLB The Show, so hopefully they patch it in by the time I pick one up and buy next gen MLB The Show.

So basically if you download your movies/tv shows/music, you can't stream them through the PS4. Sucks.

I can't imagine that will be the case for long. The hardware supports it, they will just have to make a firmware update to make it work (again).

                        Confirmed for the 2nd update

Though there have been a few missteps on Sony’s behalf from the recent FAQ post riddled with mistakes of no MP3 support, No DLNA support, and a few other features that are not available at launch. We were able to speak to a Sony rep today about if any of these features could be implemented in the near future and much to our surprise we have received a “Yes“. The future update that is in process to be rolled out shortly after the PS4′s launch(November 15th) will include the following detailed features listed below:

                        Legacy headset support
Mp3 support for not only in-game but non gaming as well.
                        Suspend and resume play feature

All of these features are set to hit PS4′s consoles by late 2013- to early 2014. Which we hope Sony will deliver sooner upon. From what we know these features are being packed in the 2nd forth coming PS4 firmware update. Also these details were hinted today when Shuhei Yoshida made a post on twitter stating that he had a discussion with other PlayStation 4 development team members about received feedback. With this news being provided Those these features are a definite step in the right direction. We were still unable to confirm future external hard drive support for media or game data would be supported later on. lastly we’re still waiting to hear if there will be future YouTube support for video sharing. What do you think of this good news do you think Sony still needs more features to claim the living room in this next gen console war? comment below let us know.

Just read this article on Yahoo. Good to see they are already patching in mp3 support and a couple other things. I was quite pissed to read this in the article. I thought; So mp3 may be an older format....who fucking cares....it's a mainstay many use, stop trying to promote your agendas!! Glad they changed their minds.

One thing that is very positive for this cycle of next gen consoles is that both Sony and MS are willing to change their plans quickly based on feedback from the gaming community. The consoles we are getting in the next few weeks both will be operating a lot differently than originally announced a few months ago.
