I started up my single player career last night. Decided to start at the bottom of the Touring Car/GT ladder in the Renault Clio Cup series.
Quickly discovered that there are specific rules to each series in the game. For Clio Cup, during a race weekend there's one practice session, one qualifying session and two races - the second of which requires a pit stop. I really like that. Gives each series a unique feel. (there's also things like bonus points for fastest lap in the race)
Anyways... So I'm in the first round of the season in the second race. I'm running P4 when the first two guy duck off into the pits early in the race leaving me and the guy in front of me to do battle for a few laps. I end up following up into the pits and was able to beat him out. I come out right behind P1 and P2.
Now comes the point this rambling... me and the guy in P2 battle nose to tail for the final four laps of the race. Pretty clean racing (a light touch here and there). We traded places a few times, ran side by side at times. It was a quality of racing that I haven't had with AI before, it's usually only something that comes with good multiplayer racing. It felt like an actual race. For those of you who've played games like Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo, F1, etc... you know that it's hard to find good racing in single player that feels like racing. It's usually getting your ass kicked by the AI or the entire field feels like an overtaking challenge. It's terrible.
Anyways... here's the final four laps of my race at Donington Park in the Renault Clio Cup.

Well done Swarley! I did about an hour and half with the game last night trying different cars. I started a "prototype I" career and ended up finishing 2nd at the Glen. Obviously it's a track I know very well and had AI only at 80% but the game felt good without any setup adjustments.
Definitely more forgiving than iracing but will start loosing up the cars up a little with some custom setups. Overall what I see from career mode I like so far but haven't spent enough time to make a full review of the game.
I will get on tonight but after 9pm.

Finished up season 1 in the Clio Cups tonight. 5 rounds with 2 races in each round. Didn't win any races but I finished 3rd in the championship. My best finish came from the 2nd race of the final round at Brands Hatch. Finished P2. I had the car to win but I got beaten on pit road by the guy who took it. Bummer, but it was a lot of fun.
I'm now in the offseason and doing some one-off events that I got invited to. Got my first career win!!! I took the win at Spa in the '80s BMW M1 Procar race.

So really it just depends on your budget. If you want to stay on the lower end, I highly recommend the G27. I wouldn't go for anything cheaper than that as you'll really start to sacrifice quality. If you have plenty of money to burn, there a lot of fun options to look at.Comment

I have the Logitech G27. It's probably the best when you consider the price and what you get. There are a lot of better wheels out there, but you can pick this up for $200-250 and you get a solid wheel, pedal set with clutch and a shifter. At some point I'd like to upgrade to the Thrustmaster T300. That one has a fantastic base but it's also $400 and it comes with crappy pedals that I'd probably want to upgrade to something else like a Fanatec pedal set.

Swarley hit the nail on the head. The G27 is a great entry point for (serious) online racing. It has withstood the test of time and can get you places. If online racing is not your thing you can turn around and sell it fairly quickly. If you really get into sim racing you can upgrade from there (fanatec fanboy), but remember these are not toys, but rather engineered masterpieces... The single most important piece of equipment is going to be your pedalsComment

After spending some time today and logging a total of 8 hours... STAY AWAY if you are running a AMD video card or chipset. At least for now this game is unplayable. Way too many crashes and unloadable tracks.Last edited by HardHittnOzone; 05-08-2015, 03:45 PM.Comment

After a couple of frustrating days with project cars I was able to run into this video which puts a lighter side of things we all encountered. I am going to call this a loss and hang it up at this time.
Enjoy!

Been playing the shit out of this game since Wednesday. Can't say I've had any technical problems with it at all.
As I stated above, I finished my first season in Clio Cup without a win and finished 3rd in the standings. Won a handful of races that offseason during invite events.
Anyways... Got a contract renewal to come back to my team in Clio Cup for a second season. Ended up having a great season. I won both races from pole at Donington in the first round of the season. Won one race and came P5 in the second at Snetterton. That win was fun b/c I came from P4 on the grid and had to do a lot of battling. Finished top 5 in both races at Silverstone, but a couple of guys were starting to close the gap on my championship lead. So next up was Oulton Park. This track gave me fits in season 1 with those FWD cars. Well this weekend wasn't any different. Finished P10 and P17. After that, if I had another bad weekend in the final round at Brands Hatch, I'd probably lose the title. Fortunately, I completely dominated practice, qualifying and both races at Brands Hatch. Won both and took the championship winning 5 of the 10 races
Did an offseason series in the Group 5 cars. Didn't do great, but not terrible.
Received 5 contract offers for season 3. First was to rejoin my Clio Cup team for a third season, 2 were from Formula Gulf teams and the other two were from the Ginetta Junior series. I was really tempted to hop ship over to open wheel b/c I really love those Formula Gulf cars. But I stuck with the plan and took an offer to race in the Ginetta Junior series.
This series runs almost the same as Clio Cup. 2 races per round, but one is half distance and the second is normal with a required pit stop.
Ran the first round at Oulton Park. Man... this track and I just don't get along. I think I had a podium car but spun it out in both races. Finished P10 in the first race and P7 in the second race.Comment

What difficulty are you playing on? I find that depending on the conditions, I can be pretty competitive. But if it's raining, I feel like I have to greatly reduce the difficulty to even stand a chance.
Also, have you adjusted FFB at all? I don't know if I have something calibrated wrong or what, but I essentially have no FFB until I reach a certain steering angle, and then it all comes in at once. I can hit rumble strips and feel absolutely nothing. I feel like I have something wrong but I've put in the recommended G27 settings and haven't found much improvement.Comment

I've done a little tweaking here and there. I've noticed that some cars have better FFB than others. I keep meaning to really dive into those settings.
Btw, some of us are getting on for some online shenanigans tonight at 8pm EDT.Comment
