Commence with the Internet Gaming Community LOSING-THEIR-FUCKING-MIND.
Xbox One gamers will not be able to upload video to Twitch.tv at launch, Microsoft said this morning. The lack of support leaves Xbox One users without the ability to broadcast live gameplay natively from the console.
"Our goal is to deliver it during the first part of 2014," Microsoft said in the news story.
Twitch will still feature an app exclusive to the console serving up live broadcasts, and even achievements unique to using the service.
Twitch's partnership with Xbox One was announced back at E3 2013 in June, and though it was never said live streaming would be present at launch on the console, no one ever said it wouldn't. PlayStation 4 users can already livestream their games to Twitch (or UStream) using the console's Share button, and can watch other PS4 users' Twitch (and UStream) streams with the Live From PlayStation app. But there is no Twitch app allowing a PS4 user to watch channels on the service or video from non-PS4 users.
"We know the ability to instantly broadcast gameplay is something the gaming community is excited about, and we are too," read the Xbox Wire post. "We are working to ensure the initial Twitch on Xbox One broadcasting experience meets the expectations of the Twitch community, so while this feature won't be available right away, we'll let you know as soon as it is ready."
Microsoft released the video above, showing the Twitch app in action and the ability to snap the app to the side of a game in progress, helpful for, say, browsing the service for a walkthrough to get through a tough stretch of a game.
Additionally, the Twitch app will carry its own set of achievements, some of them awarded for viewing habits bordering on the obsessive. "Watch one hour of live video on Twitch channels that have less than 10 viewers," gets you the "Hipster" achievement, for example. Another gives out an achievement for watching "at least one minute of live video on Twitch in each hour of a full day."
Basically it'll take a little bit for XBox One owners to start Twitch streaming but it still is going to be on the console.
Also, while you can stream from the jump on PS4, for the time being only XBox One allows you to watch other streams on the side.
Cue the internet losing their shit and much mud being slung by both sides...
...especially when Sony and Microsoft shipped consoles that they planned (or will plan for in the future) to patch to full capacity later on.
For a fee one would assume no less.Comment
