so these ships you add to your fleet...is that for the online mini game i read about or is that for offline ship battles?

when i beat a ship i only have the option to repair my ship....i thought there was other options for the ship you defeat

Once the ship is captured you have 3 options as to what you do with it.

Lower Wanted Level - This not only lowers your wanted level, but also gives you more crew members than what you get from just capturing the ship.
Send ship to the Kenway's Fleet minigame. Replace your weaker ships with larger ships. You can also sell these off for massive amounts of diamonds (the in-game-minigame currency)
Repair The Jackdaw - If your ship took damage in the fight, you can use materials from the defeated vessel to repair your own ship.

they are tough until you add some cannons to your ship.........then they are easy as shit to take out.

I'm going to try and get into this game, but I hated the ship missions in AC3, and I just couldn't get interested in the two hours I started Black Flag.

I completely respect the series for going in this direction, because it was beginning to become stale, but I'm thinking it just isn't for me.

i have not played one since AC2 and the thing that irritated me was holding that dam RT button all the time to run and climb. I love the boats in this cause its a slower battle that feels completely organic. I would be in fights with a ship, start losing, then cruise off for a minute to find a small boat to beat for repairs, then come back and continue my battle with the larger ships.

plus you can sneak on to ships and just kill the crew rather than do gun battle. I also come up on a ship that something else beat down...while it was on fire i climbed aboard and then a clock came up giving me 60 seconds to loot the ship....i just barely got my ship away before it exploded.

upgrading the ship gives you a RPG feel to it as well. you have to find metal, wood and coin to do the upgrades for battle...which i really enjoy that element of RPG games. Having it be an open world game is fantastic too.

taking out that fort was a bitch. i wanted to use mortar strikes and found out the hard way that you have to buy mortar ammo. But i finally got on land and had to battle the enemies their while hunting the captian of the fort....the puss kept running from me. Once i took over the fort i noticed the cannons kept firing away....i look over the wall and see my cannons are blasting away at boats in the ocean.

            good times!

i find alot of the main and side quests to be intrusive to the boat play. u cant open parts of the world unless you progress the main story. now alot of the quests are cool, but alot of them are lame as fuck. follow 2 dicks who are talking and eavsdrop on them...but dont get to close of they see you, and dont get to far are you cant hear them....and the conversation can hardly be heard anyways. so you pick up bits and peices and hear nothing but lame banter.

then i have the 3 bonus islands open...so i cruise up to the NE section to the black island....how lame is this shit. its just another island with a small amount of loot and a few lame chests to open. how is this a bonus?

did see a legendary ship....well, the pair of them up there. they destroyed me. fuckers circle around you and hit you in a cross fire. lol

some of the tailing missions get kinda tough. you mainly have to stay on the rooftops. i hate the small islands as well. the legendary ships, oh they are a beast to take down. still trying to upgrade my ship. i have almost 200k in reals, but i am not able to upgrade again....i am really deep in the story. the one bright spot, fast travel. if i had to sail from part to the other with it i think i would quit playing.

only limitation i have had on upgrading my boat is the lack of resources. i even have my hull at 100% already. just finally moved down into the medium section

                            Streamed some of this tonight.

Still in the early goings of the game (I have the Jackdaw but most of the upgrades are still plot-related and unavailable to me right now) but I'm having fun.

Having to fend off a small band of mini-ships after tailing a Man O'War for a bit through a storm was cool and I got to feel like a badass as I shot all those little buggers to pieces of driftwood.

Kinda sucks that I couldn't board the bigger ship since this was all mission-based but I'll get my chance later on when I'm goofing around.

Poor sods won't be able to handle the equivalent of a pirate Jason Voorhees when I do.

upgrading isnt plot related. the only thing that is plot related is the diving vessel that tig mentioned. everything else can be upgraded right when you get your ship, if you have the money and resources. Elite items require you find the plans before you can upgrade to elite.

im 2 memories past the man o war missions and i have an elite hull, all but 1 broadside cannon and heavy shot, and i have mortars, round shot, and swival shot about half upgraded. none of these upgrades were related to the plot.

i am at the sunken ship, where the upgrade for the broadside cannons are. sharks are every freaking where. shit.
its in an area labeled....HARD!!!. no joke.

gambled and went after the chest that was far away, score. got the cannons....woot.
