If anything, I think I'm more disheartened at the amount of people who continually go out an buy games like CoD and Madden, complain about how they haven't improved enough, and buy it again the next year.
Your two posts have summed up my feeling pretty much perfectly. I'm not even sure why the topic of the video is "Why do we hate CoD" when clearly, the gaming community doesn't hate CoD. Now, the Twigg's of the world can insult those that play those games year in and year out, but at the end oft he day, they're all that's keeping the video game industry afloat now-a-days, in a lot of ways. Every day I'm amazed at how fickle the fans of this industry are, and how self-conscious. "I hate this game, so everyone else must or they're idiots!" "HOW CAN YOU LIKE THAT PIECE OF SHIT!?" Stuff like that isn't the point. Games are played for enjoyment. If you "hate" CoD, chances are you're worried way too much about what other people play and enjoy. Relax, play what you like, let other people play what they like, and hey, maybe we'll all be happy?

As far as I'm concerned, I loved COD4, and haven't really played much after that. Competitive MP was never really my thing, but it's become less my thing as I get older. So I guess I nothing the series in general. I'm more interested in trying to parse out how it would be numbered, at this point. It gets kind of hilarious breaking down the numbers.

Adding 7 new game modes, completely changing the way you prepare for a match, knocking out most air based killstreaks, introducing 30 new weapons, implementing 3 new distinct movements, etc.

Those are huge changes. They're not going to change the engine, because why the fuck would they, so what more do the haters want?

They want to hate on popular games to bring them down, just like always.

EDIT: Or they love Battlefield and are upset it doesn't touch the popularity of CoD.

Which is kind of what I was referring to, in a way. Who cares? It's not like Battlefield ISN'T popular. It's just not AS popular. It's not like Battlefield fans can't find a game to play because everyone's on CoD. It's such a silly reason to be upset.

          This.

It all comes down to what kind of gameplay you enjoy. I think a lot of gamers want that faster pace gameplay which is why I believe COD sells more. The younger crowd helps the sales as well.

I don't hate Call of Duty.

I hate that it's easy for the studio to call it a day after making the 90th shoebox-size level and sells it for $15 with two reskins and a zombie level.

If they allowed for more co-op via COD4 and MW3, I'd be more inclined to play it past one playthrough.

Instead, I play BF but even that's a drag on consoles because you're either playing against no-lifer shitbucket 100 Colonels or scrubs who don't PTFO.

The maps are the perfect size though for me even if the player count could be higher.

I hate it for the reason people talk shit about sports games. With sports you're getting a roster update to keep it current with whats going on in that particular sport. With a COD though it is literally a shooter with a new-ish setting. Got old very quick. I stopped really playing after BLOPS. I also come from the SOCOM days so I am will always be a bigger supporter of games that involve teamwork. Which is why I loved MAG. You can potentially still be a one man wrecking crew, but you aren't gonna do your team any favors as far as your objectives are concerned playing it that way

As a COD regular, I am glad they make minor improvements. All I really want is some new weapons, new maps, and new killstreaks. Most people who play COD religiously have their friends list full of people who do the same thing, so they really couldn't care less what all the outsiders think about the game.

That's still a stupid reason to "hate" something. Just don't buy it.

This, but I can at least understand Madden. With the franchise exclusive agreement, we have no other options for an NFL game. For COD, there are PLENTY of other shooters out there to choose from.

And none of those other options come close to CoD, according to most gamers.
